Teen Dies Following E-Scooter Crash on Highway 31 in Spring Hill
A 15-year-old girl died Saturday after the electric scooter she was riding was involved in a collision with a vehicle along Highway 31 South near the GM plant entrance. Emergency crews and police officers responded to the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but the teen did not survive her injuries.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy comes as law enforcement agencies across Middle Tennessee report an increase in incidents involving electric bikes and scooters, particularly involving young riders. Spring Hill police say officers have recently responded to several crashes and complaints involving e-bikes and e-scooters, and expect activity to increase while school is out for the summer.
Police departments in several area communities have launched education efforts and increased enforcement in response to riders operating in traffic, ignoring traffic laws, or creating dangerous situations for themselves and drivers.
Officials are encouraging parents to have conversations with children and teens about safe riding habits, traffic awareness, and the rules that apply when using electric bikes and scooters on public roads.
