Parades, Fireworks and Drone Shows: Your Fourth of July Guide

Looking for ways to celebrate Independence Day? From kids parades and live music to fireworks and even a drone show, there are several events planned for the holiday weekend.

July 3rd First Fridays in Downtown Columbia

July First Fridays is a celebration honoring America’s 250th birthday in patriotic style. Show your red, white, and blue! Wear your stars and stripes, patriotic tees, or festive Americana outfits.

-Shop craft vendors and support vendors who are young entrepreneurs.
-Grab dinner from a food truck or a downtown restaurants.
-Interact with local businesses, organizations, and non-profits.
-Enjoy LIVE music from the Main Stage plus buskers playing music around the downtown.
-Game Zone for all ages.

Kids 4th of July Celebration

Friday, July 4, at Riverwalk Park. The event is hosted by the Columbia Noon Rotary Club, Columbia Breakfast Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club of Columbia.

Festivities begin with a ceremony honoring current and former members of the military, followed by a Kids Bicycle Parade at Riverwalk Park. The honor ceremony begins at 8:30 AM, with the parade stepping off at 9:30 AM.

The Kiwanis of Columbia will be providing awesome kids' blow-ups/inflatables and a balloon artist. Post-parade, stick around for the inflatables, balloon twisting, and plenty of other fun activities for the kids!

Maury County Park Fireworks

Those looking for an evening fireworks display can head to Maury County Park, located at 1018 Maury County Park Drive.

The annual fireworks show is scheduled to begin around 9 p.m. on July 4. Fireworks will be launched from the hill overlooking the park, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and snacks to enjoy the show. A synchronized soundtrack will be available on 87.9 FM.

If weather causes delays, organizers say the show will move forward as conditions allow.

Mount Pleasant - July 3 Celebration

Mount Pleasant will kick off the holiday a day early with an Independence Day celebration on Thursday, July 3, at the Mount Pleasant Community Center, 501 Gray Lane.

Activities begin at 6 p.m. and include food trucks, lemonade vendors, a Kids Zone and access to the splash pad. A community bike parade is also planned, with participants invited to decorate their bicycles in red, white and blue and line up at 7 p.m. for a ride around the center.

Organizers say the parade is open to "kids of all ages," from youngsters to adults who still enjoy riding. Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m.

Spring Hill - Fireworks and Drone Show

Spring Hill will celebrate America's 250th anniversary with an evening event at The Crossings, located at 1001 Crossings Boulevard.

Live music by the Super Nash Bros. begins at 6 p.m. on July 4. Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m., followed by the GM Spring Hill Drone Show at approximately 9:25 p.m.

Organizers note that personal fireworks and alcohol will not be permitted at the event.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, residents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy Independence Day with family, friends and neighbors throughout the area.

June 27 & July 11: Family of Influence Walking Tours

The President James K. Polk Home and Museum presents a walking tour of downtown Columbia, TN that features the history of the town told through stories of the Polk family.

Before it was Mule Town USA, what was Columbia like? As some of the earliest residents, the Polk family would help shape the town. Learn about Samuel Polk's fist fight on the city square, William Polk's duel and the trees that spelled out "Andrew Jackson."

This interactive tour will begin and end at the President James K. Polk Home & Museum and takes participants around the downtown area. The tour will last approximately 1.5 hours and does not include a tour of the Polk Home itself. Visitors should dress weather appropriate and wear comfortable shoes.

Limited tickets may be available at the door, but participants are encouraged to purchase their tickets ahead of time to ensure their spot on the tour.
