Yard & Bake Sale to Benefit Baby London This Weekend After June Shooting

The Layne family, alongside friends and supporters, will host a yard sale and bake sale at 1490 Gravel Road in Columbia from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 6–7. The fundraiser aims to help the family cover medical and personal expenses as their baby, London, continues recovering from a stray bullet injury.
On June 6, the family’s life was forever changed when two teenagers opened fire outside their Spring Hill home. Out of the 15 bullets fired, one pierced the wall and struck one-year-old London while she slept. A combination of remarkable circumstances—such as her crib absorbing part of the bullet’s impact and the placement of her wound—helped save her life. Vanderbilt doctors stabilized her quickly, and she was able to return home not long after.
Since then, London has begun physical and cognitive therapy and has also struggled with night terrors. The family’s challenges have been compounded by her father losing his job in August and by the loss of peace they once felt in their home.
Yet, even amid hardship, their community has surrounded them with support. Organizers Ben Johnson, a firefighter who responded the night of the shooting, and his sister Tonya Street have stepped in to lead fundraising efforts and continue to walk alongside the family. Their dedication has been a reminder of hope, faith, and love in action.
This weekend’s event will feature donated clothes, toys, books, and household items for sale, along with a bake sale of homemade treats. Concessions such as hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, sides, drinks, and desserts will also be available. The Layne family and organizers encourage the community to attend, donate, and spread the word to help make the event a success.
