Doctors Say It’s a Miracle: Baby Survived Gunshot to the Head in Spring Hill
A one-year-old girl remains hospitalized after being struck in the head by a stray bullet during a shootout in Spring Hill early Friday morning.
The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on June 6 in the 3000 block of Shandor Street, located in the Harvest Pointe subdivision. Investigators believe an exchange of gunfire broke out between someone on the street and occupants of a sedan, with roughly 15 rounds fired.
One of those bullets tore through the wall of a nearby home, hitting the sleeping child. Since then, her mother has been sharing updates on her condition as the community continues to pray for her recovery.
The mother, Leslie Layne, posted this on Facebook:
Update: 3:43 pm Her brain is still swelling and bleeding! Watching very closely in the PICU! She is struggling with balance when walking they said from the head trauma and we will restart pt for that when able! For now I am praying full restoration and for her brain to stop bleeding and the swelling reside now in the name of Jesus! And for the people who did this to be caught ans brought to justice right now in the name of Jesus!
Waiting for contrast ct to show if surgery will be necessary! Keep praying!
Prayers need asap! London was shot in the head in a shoot out that occurred in our driveway tonight! Skull is fractured brain bleed and pressure on sinus in brain! Pray and pray hard!

This was posted later on Friday:
But God… last night the most horrific incident happened. We woke up to what at first I thought were fireworks or possibly gunshots… as we approached the hall more shots rang out and our 1 year old daughter London started screaming! We opened the door to find her covered in blood and shot!
Let’s rewind a bit…. A week ago I swapped beds around and took the solid wood crib into Londons room. I don’t know why it had to be then… but I did and knew it needed to be done and while my mother in love was at the house I took advantage of the small window of time to get it done as well!
The doctors at Vanderbilt said that the crib being solid wood and perfectly placed saved her life and slowed the bullet enough to stop it from ending up in her brain! Doctors are literally tearing up looking at the photo and then our daughter saying that is a miracle!

Lord I will praise you in the storm! You knew Lord… you prepared a way long before I knew I needed it! You have big plans for these Layne kiddos obviously!
As you pray for London and complete healing we recognize the reality is we could be planning a funeral and instead we will celebrate the hand of protection and while not unscathed she has a heck of a testimony when this is over!
When you feel that nudge from the Holy Spirit just do it! You never know when that but God moment might happen! Keep praying and I will keep you posted!
A friend of the family has started a GoFundMe to help with expenses in this difficult time.
The SHPD is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the persons involved in this incident. Tips can be submitted here.
