NWS Confirms 2 Tornado Touchdowns in Maury County This Morning

National Weather Service Nashville TN
452 PM CDT Mon Mar 31 2025

...NWS Damage Survey for 03/30/2025 Tornado Event - Update #1...

NWS Nashville conducted storm surveys across portions of Middle TN today, including Hickman, Williamson, and Maury Counties. Three individual tornado tracks were identified, with the highest rating of EF2 achieved with a tornado in western Maury County near Hamphsire. Additional survey efforts are ongoing.

Overview... Severe thunderstorms impacted Middle Tennessee on the evening and overnight hours of March 30, 2025. Damaging winds, large hail up to two inches in diameter, and tornadoes occurred with the strongest storms.

NWS survey teams confirmed a brief tornado touchdown just east of Tidwell in far eastern Hickman County. Timber damage occurred near Hwy 46, progressing east to the Pinewood Substation in far western Williamson County where several trees were snapped or uprooted. The tornado crossed Interstate 840 causing additional timber damage along Liberty Rd, then dissipated as it crossed Valley Rd.

NWS Survey teams confirmed a tornado touchdown in western Maury County, just northeast of Hampshire near US Hwy 412. Here, timber damage occurred, as well as damage to at least one barn, on Old State Rd and Roy Thompson Rd. The tornado crossed into an inaccessible wooded thereafter, then emerged onto Rippey Lake Rd causing additional damage to trees. The tornado then caused significant damage to a home, removing almost the entire roof section and collapsing most walls. This is where the EF2 rating was achieved with estimated winds of 120 mph. The tornado weakened as it moved southeast, causing additional timber damage on South Bridges Rd, then dissipated on Ashwood Rd.

NWS Nashville survey teams confirmed a tornado touchdown near Trotwood Ave and Old Sunny Ln south of Columbia in Maury County. Here the tornado caused timber damage by uprooting trees. The tornado counties east southeast across a residential area in Sunnyside where mainly minor timber damage was observed. The tornado continued east southeast causing additional minor timber damage as it crossed Campbellsville Pike, then dissipated shortly after crossing US Hwy 31.

Maury County Fire Department Responds to Storm Damage

Chief Periut was prepositioned at the EOC with other emergency officials in case of a significant weather event. Division 30 (Chief Craft) was the designated area commander for western Maury County and he quickly established an area command to coordinate resources responding into the area.

Luckily only minor injuries were reported from the tornadoes. Members worked for approximately 3 hours checking for damaged homes and clearing trees from the roadway.

Responding units: Engines 21, 22, 25, Rescue 21, District 25, Division 30, Deputy 20. Squad 32 and Engine 26 moved up and handled regular calls while units operated in the tornado damaged area.

More Storms Ahead: Heavy Rain & Flooding Risks This Week

From US National Weather Service - Nashville, Tennessee’s post

To say the least, this is getting ridiculous. We're not getting much of a break between the last round of severe storms and the next potential event. In fact, the graphic we're put together for Wednesday evening and overnight looks a lot like the one for last night. Unfortunately, that's only the beginning. We are expecting several days in a row with heavy rain potential, so much that we've already issued a Flood Watch starting Wednesday evening and lasting through Saturday night. Expected rainfall totals are enormous, and, unfortunately, the same areas that were impacted by heavy rain and flooding last month are expected to be the most heavily impacted again. For the 7-day forecast that is specific to your location, just go to weather.gov and enter your zip code.
