Stolen Mustang Chase in Spring Hill Ends With Crash, Gun and Arrest

Spring Hill police say an 18-year-old from Lawrenceburg led officers on a chase Tuesday night in a Mustang reported stolen from an apartment complex off Columns Way, according to WKRN News 2. Officers found the car near Main Street and Kedron Road, and police say the driver took off when they turned on their lights, reaching 70 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The Mustang was later found wrecked and smoking in a culvert. Jaxon Bryant Rhea got out with his hands up and was taken into custody without incident. Police say they found a mask and a loaded handgun in the car, and the gun's ownership is still under investigation.

Visit Columbia’s Kellye Murphy and Lexi Dearborn Win State Tourism Awards

The City of Columbia is proud to announce that Kellye Murphy, Tourism & Marketing Director for Visit Columbia, and Lexi Dearborn, Marketing Specialist, have each received top honors from the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association (TNHTA) for their work promoting Columbia and strengthening the local tourism industry.

Murphy was named destination marketing organization (DMO) Director of the Year, while Dearborn was named DMO Employee of the Year. Both awards were presented in the Small Market category during the Stars of the Industry Awards Ceremony at the Tennessee Governor’s Conference on Hospitality and Tourism in Gatlinburg, TN.

These awards recognize professionals who demonstrate leadership, creativity, collaboration and dedication to promoting their communities and attracting visitors. Visit Columbia is the City of Columbia’s official DMO, responsible for promoting Columbia as a destination for visitors.

“Kellye and Lexi are both incredibly deserving of these awards, and we are proud to see their hard work and dedication recognized,” said Mayor Chaz Molder. “Their efforts have helped transform tourism into one of Columbia’s greatest assets, strengthening our local economy, generating revenue that helps reduce the burden on taxpayers and showcasing all that our community has to offer. We are incredibly proud of what they have built and the work they do every day to ensure Columbia remains a welcoming and memorable destination for visitors.”

Maury County Firefighters Respond to Multiple Fires During Corn Harvest

This corn harvest has come with some challenges for our local farmers. Units have responded to two combine fires and a vehicle fire that resulted in a corn field fire this month. Quick responses from members from Station 32 helped limit damage on each incident. 

The most recent incident, a vehicle and corn field fire yesterday, required the response of Brush 21 & 32, Engines 21 & 32, Tankers 21 & 32, and Safety 20. Members worked for over an hour to contain the fire that was quickly spreading through standing corn.

Big thanks to Maury County Commission for continuing to provide us with top of the line equipment to serve the community.
