New Sculptures to Be Unveiled in Columbia Arts District

Screen capture from City of Columbia TN Government’s video

The City of Columbia is excited to announce the unveiling of three sculptures in the heart of the Columbia Arts District. This special event will showcase the talents of local artists Whitney Herrington, Rommel Ricaurte, and his sons Nicholas and Cory Ricaurte. The talented father and son trio possesses the remarkable ability to transform cold steel into warm, evocative works of art.

The pieces they designed for the Arts District include a striking bluegill, highlighting the wildlife sustained by the local Duck River, and a thought-provoking marionette cutting his own strings, representing self-liberation and independence.

The unveiling will take place on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Firefighters Park, situated at the gateway to the Arts District at 1000 South Garden Street in Columbia. The event will begin with a brief ceremony and an introduction of the artists, followed by the unveiling of all three sculptures. The community is invited to join the city in celebrating these additions to the landscape of Columbia’s Arts District.

🚒 Groundbreaking at Fire Station No. 4 in Spring Hill

State, county, and City of Spring Hill leaders joined together Monday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking at Fire Station No. 4 — the Mitchell Earwood Memorial Station.

Located at the corner of Duplex Road and Buckner Lane, Fire Station No. 4 is scheduled to be completed in late 2025. Once fully staffed, Fire Station No. 4 is projected to decrease response times in Spring Hill by about 25 percent.

The station is named in honor of former Spring Hill Firefighter Mitchell Earwood, who tragically lost his life in a weather-related incident on May 3, 2020. We were honored to have his family in attendance Monday, and we will proudly display Mitchell's fire gear near the entryway of Fire Station No. 4 once it is completed.
