Maury County Library Unveils Renovated Main Floor on Friday With New Teen Center, Study Rooms & More

The Maury County Library will hold a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, to celebrate the reopening of its renovated main floor at 211 West 8th Street in Columbia. The remodeling project has been underway since October 2025.
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, County Mayor Sheila Butt, County Commission Chairman Danny Grooms and Library Director Meghan Cyr are scheduled to speak.
The updated main level includes a teen center, study rooms, a new classroom, a demonstration kitchen, technology for telehealth appointments, space for adult education and workforce development classes, and two areas for small groups.
The project was funded through a grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, facilitated by the South Central Tennessee Development District, along with matching funds from the County Commission.
The current library building opened in 1968, and the Children’s Library was added in the basement during a 1994 renovation. The library’s roots go back much further, though. It grew out of a literary club formed in 1896, the oldest in Tennessee, which later became the Students’ Club. The club’s collection moved several times over the years, from the old Memorial Building to the old Post Office building (now the Memorial Building) and then to two rooms in the old Columbia Institute.
In 1951, largely through the Students’ Club’s efforts, the library was accredited and joined the State of Tennessee Library System, becoming the Maury County Public Library.
Read the full story for more on the renovation and the library’s history from Main Street Maury here.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments and tour the newly remodeled facility. The library will be open to patrons after the ceremony.
Less Than a Day's Supply: Blood Assurance Urges Middle Tennessee Residents to Donate

Blood Assurance, the primary blood supplier for most Middle Tennessee hospitals, says it has less than a day’s supply of O-negative blood heading into the holidays, and platelet supplies remain critically low.
Through Friday, Nov. 13, donors can receive a $40 e-gift card for platelet or double red cell donations and a $25 e-gift card for all other eligible donations. Schedule a donation at www.bloodassurance.org.
