Line Dancing for a Cause: Habitat Hootenanny Coming to The Mulehouse

Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury is inviting the community to spend Sunday afternoon line dancing at its first Habitat Hootenanny, a fundraiser at Dawson Hall at The Mulehouse in Columbia.

The event runs 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Tickets are $30 per person, and proceeds support Habitat's work building and repairing homes for local families. Purchase tickets here.

The afternoon includes line dancing lessons, music and food truck fare available for purchase. You don't need to know your way around a dance floor to join in, since the lessons are set up for beginners as well as experienced dancers. The event is open to the public and sponsored by First Farmers and Merchants Bank.

"Columbia is such an important part of the work we do, and we wanted to create an event that feels like a true community gathering," said Kim Randell, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury. "Our mission is to help families put down roots in the community where they live, work and play. In a housing market that is boxing people out, we are carving out a way for families to establish a home base for years to come."

Some of that work is underway in Columbia right now. Habitat is developing a neighborhood of 16 homes in the city, with construction on seven of them happening this fall. Families there will buy their homes through affordable mortgages.

Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry that became an official Habitat affiliate in December 1992. Since then, it has built and repaired more than 300 homes across Williamson, Maury, Lawrence, Hickman and Decatur counties. Along with new construction, the organization provides critical home repairs, offers financial education through its Get Ready program and runs a ReStore in Franklin. It also has a tithing commitment that supports Habitat's work outside Middle Tennessee.

The release waiver depot and waiting line will close at 3:30 PM each day.

Due to safety concerns, pregnant women or persons over 350 pounds are not permitted to ride trains. Children 18 months and younger must be secured to the front of an adult in a baby carrier, sling or wrap.

During inclement weather, passenger trains are not able to run. All passenger trains will stop operations and will not resume until the weather has passed and a track inspection can be completed.

Texas-born songwriter and storyteller Scott Sean White is an award-winning writer known for honest, heartfelt songs rooted in authentic country storytelling. His credits include Cody Johnson’s “God Bless the Boy,” Bryan Martin’s “Made a Home,” Tim McGraw’s “The Cowboy in Me,” and Aaron Tippin’s “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly,” along with songs recorded by artists including Rascal Flatts and Toby Keith.

Gary Chapman is an award-winning Nashville songwriter whose songs have been recorded by country and music legends including Kenny Rogers, Alabama, T.G. Sheppard, Steve Wariner, and Amy Grant. His songwriting credits include the No. 1 country hit “Finally” recorded by T.G. Sheppard and Amy Grant’s beloved “My Father’s Eyes,”along with numerous charting songs across country and Christian music.
