Kings Baking Co. to Open at The Factory at Columbia

Soon there will be a new bakery opening at The Factory at Columbia. Kings Baking Co. will be moving into B’s Salty & Sweet’s old location (B’s is moving to 510 N. Garden St).
Clay and Sherilyn Reid started their cottage bakery in the spring of 2023, shortly after Sherilyn’s maternity leave. They initially launched the bakery to allow Sherilyn to work from home, transitioning from her career in social media marketing.
They have been selling their products at farmers markets in various places throughout middle TN since April 2023. They recently ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to open a brick and mortar location.
Learn a bit more about their journey in their own words…
Sherilyn grew up in an Amish community in Holmes County Ohio. Her family left the Amish when she was little and she grew up Mennonite so it's needless to say that her upbringing was filled with constant cooking and baking. Her love and passion for baking runs true as her mother and sister also have their own catering and baking businesses. When we began the journey of starting Kings, Sherilyn wanted to bring together her two favorite worlds - the nostalgic treats that were traditions in her family and high end patisserie that always sparked her curiosity. On maternity leave, Sher dedicated herself to tackling one of the most difficult baking styles - viennoiserie. This quickly became one of the most important aspects of what we do.

In the meantime Clay dedicated his efforts to the craft of sourdough bread making. His desire was to create a product that not only tasted amazing, but was also gut-friendly. He also began working on other styles of bread such as Focaccia and Shokupan. Clay loves innovating and always bringing something fun and new to the table (pun intended). Clay grew up in Virginia and Vermont and fell in love with the specialty coffee industry as a teen. As time went on his love grew from making great coffee to creating and making things that create an amazing experience for the people around him. If you've tried Clay's breads, you'd know this to be true. ;)
While we work to open our bakery we are going to be doing regular pop ups inside the @factoryatcolumbia right in front of where our new space will be! Come join us this Saturday from 9am to noon. We’ll have all your favorites and MORE! This is where we’ll be testing out some new pastries to develop our menu for when we open. We’re going to aim to do a pop up every Saturday until we’re open so keep your eyes peeled for more info on our next one.
Fri/Sat: Tomato Art Fest in East Nashville

The Tomato Art Fest has been a beloved tradition in East Nashville since its inception in 2003, celebrating the creative and quirky sides of the community through art, music, food, and family-friendly activities. This year, the 21st annual festival will be held on Friday, August 9, and Saturday, August 10, in the heart of East Nashville's Five Points.
The event, known for its welcoming atmosphere and vibrant spirit, is free to the public and encourages attendees to dress in festive costumes. Over the years, the Tomato Art Fest has grown into a major community event, drawing tens of thousands of people each summer. In 2022, the festival saw an estimated 65,000 visitors, a testament to its growing popularity.
The festival's unique charm lies in its array of offbeat contests, the lively Push, Pull & Wear Parade, and its central Tomato Art Show, which features over 300 tomato-themed artworks. These events capture the essence of the fest, offering a mix of nostalgia and contemporary creativity that resonates with all ages.
In addition to the free events, the festival also offers several ticketed activities, adding another layer of excitement for attendees. The Tomato Art Fest is more than just a celebration of art and tomatoes; it’s a reflection of Nashville's rich cultural tapestry and a symbol of community spirit. Whether you're there for the art, the music, the food, or simply to soak in the lively atmosphere, the Tomato Art Fest is an event that promises fun and entertainment for everyone.
🏐 Apex Boys Volleyball Club: Tryouts August 10 & 17

Apex Boys Volleyball Club, founded in 2023, is more than just a club—it's a movement bringing the exciting world of boys' volleyball to our community.
As the only competitive boys' volleyball club south of Nashville, Apex is pioneering the sport for young men in our region. The club offers both indoor and beach volleyball opportunities for boys aged 10 to 18, filling a gap in local sports offerings.
Under the leadership of Tim Cooper, the club's director and co-founder, Apex Boys Volleyball has seen tremendous growth in its first year. Tim, a seasoned volleyball player and coach with nearly a decade of coaching experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and a genuine love for the sport. His vision extends beyond just teaching volleyball; it's about shaping well-rounded individuals who excel on and off the court.
At Apex, young men are challenged to become leaders in all aspects of life. They learn to compete wholeheartedly, win with humility, and face defeats with dignity.

What sets Apex apart is its commitment to holistic development. Coached by former collegiate players, the athletes enjoy engaging practices and competitive games while being part of a supportive community. Cooper's experience is particularly inspiring—he's coached players from age 7 to 60+ and even led two teams overseas to Thailand and Ivory Coast for competitions and humanitarian work.
The club offers a comprehensive program that includes a full Fall season from August to February, Beach Volleyball in June and July, indoor camps, and private lessons.
Looking ahead, Apex Boys Volleyball plans to expand within Maury County and surrounding areas, advocating for boys volleyball in schools and working closely with the TN Boys Volleyball Association to establish school teams. This club is not just about volleyball; it's about creating opportunities, building character, and nurturing future leaders.
Tryouts: August 10 & 17
Available for ages 10-18yrs old. No previous experience necessary, just a desire to learn one of the most exciting and fun sports around.
