Rescue Team Saves Stranded Kayaker from Swift Duck River Currents

From Maury County Fire Department’s post

On Saturday at 1:26PM units were dispatched to a water rescue on the Duck River near the Hwy 7 Bridge. Units on call: Rescue 21, Boat 21, Utility 21, Support 20, Deputy 20.

Units arrived to find that a person kayaking had flipped their boat and was stranded in the middle of the river. The kayaker had a life jacket on but could not swim. The kayaker was standing on a sand bar in knee deep water; however the water on each side of him was deep and swift. Due to the person beginning to shake from the cold water temperature, two rescue swimmers deployed into the river to retrieve the victim. The victim was successfully rescued and was able to walk away from the incident.

A proper life jacket worn by the kayaker was the difference maker in this incident having a very different outcome. As summer nears, make sure to wear appropriately sized, coast guard approved life jackets on the water.

Mattie Pruitt Wraps Up American Idol Journey, Leaves on a High Note

Eagleville’s Mattie Pruitt said goodbye to American Idol on Sunday night’s (May 11) episode, as she and fellow contestant Gabby Samone were eliminated during the live voting round.

The singers competed during the show’s fan-favorite “Disney Night,” each performing a Disney classic and dedicating a second song to their mom or a meaningful woman in their life in honor of Mother’s Day.

Pruitt performed “Remember Me” from Coco, earning high praise from the judges. Luke Bryan said, “That was one of my favorite performances I saw you do.” For her second performance, she chose Lauren Alaina’s “Those Kinds of Women” as a tribute.

Despite the strong showing, the live results revealed that Pruitt and Samone would not be moving forward to the top five.

Pruitt shared her thoughts on social media following the episode: “Tonight was the end of my American Idol journey… but it’s just the beginning of everything else. I’ve learned so much, grown so much, and made memories I’ll carry with me forever. Thank you to everyone who voted, supported, encouraged, and believed in me—I wouldn’t have made it this far without you.”

She added, “This chapter might be closing, but the music doesn’t stop here. I’m just getting started.”

American Idol continues tonight, May 12, as the top five perform and the top three are revealed.
