Maury County Added to State’s 10-Year Road Plan with $630M in Major Projects

Maury County has officially been included in the state’s 10-Year Road Plan, with three major transportation projects totaling approximately $630 million. While construction timelines stretch years into the future, leaders say the move marks a significant step forward in addressing long-term growth and traffic concerns.

From Maury County Mayor Sheila Butt’s post today…

WONDERFUL NEWS FOR MAURY COUNTY in MEMO from TDOT COMMISSIONER WILL REID!!

When I was elected in 2022, I made a small white board with three priorities on it. The first one was getting Bear Creek (Hwy 99) widened. You know I believe that more good gets done when you don’t care who gets the credit and this was a TEAM effort by many in Maury County!

Due to the many hours, efforts and investments by multiple people, including the taxpayers, Maury County has been added to the 10 Year Road Plan for three very large projects:

  • HIGHWAY 31 EXPANSION FROM MAURY COUNTY LINE NORTH THROUGH SPRING HILL TO 840 AND TOLLGATE $290,000,000.

NOW ENGINEERING RIGHT OF WAY STARTING IN 2028 THEN CONSTRUCTION IN 2033. SPRING HILL HAS MADE A FINANCIAL COMMITMENT TO THIS PROJECT.

  • BEAR CREEK PIKE EXPANSION PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING 2035, RIGHT OF WAY 237 AND CONSTRUCTION 2039 $190,000,000

10 MILLION FROM CITY OF COLUMBIA, ASKING MAURY COUNTY TO CONTRIBUTE A MATCH OVER 10 YEARS TO EXPEDITE THE PROJECT AND OUR CONGRESSMAN TO GET AN APPROPRIATION OF 80 MILLION FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SPEED UP THE PROJECT.

  • JUNE LAKE INTERCHANGE CONGESTION ISSUE WILL BE ADDRESSED BY TDOT.

    A WIDENING PROJECT

STARTING ENGINEERING THIS YEAR IN 2026, CONSTRUCTION TO START IN 2028.

    $150,000,000 SATURN PARKWAY TO 840.

    TOTAL COST $630,000,000

Kudos to everyone involved!!

Maury County Attorney Daniel Murphy Resigns Amid CPWS Project Controversy

The Maury County Commission has appointed Mark Dobies as interim county attorney following the resignation of longtime attorney Daniel Murphy.

Murphy, who served in the role for 17 years, submitted his resignation March 2, citing what he described as a growing political divide within the commission and concerns about the direction of the position. His departure comes amid recent controversy connected to the $505 million Columbia Power & Water Systems downstream intake project, where questions were raised about his dual role as both county attorney and legal counsel for CPWS.

After holding two special-called meetings and interviewing multiple candidates, commissioners voted to appoint Dobies to serve a six-month interim term. Dobies, who currently lives in Franklin, said he plans to relocate to Maury County in the coming months.
