Maury County Awarded $5 Million Grant For Courthouse Renovation

From Maury County Mayor Sheila Butt’s post on Friday…

I received this email right before Christmas:

Mayor,

Congratulations, Maury County was awarded a Historic Development Grant

-Courthouse Round in the amount of $500,000.00.

A nice Christmas present! This will go toward the renovation of our historic Courthouse.

A special thanks to our Finance Department, Danny Coleman with SCTDD, Sarah Hickman-McLeod with the State, and a special thanks to each one of the Commissioners who voted to move this important project forward for our future!

Grecian Restaurant Owner Hospitalized After Christmas Eve Medical Emergency

Frank Georgalos, the owner of The Grecian Family Restaurant and Bakery in Spring Hill, remains hospitalized after collapsing at home on Christmas Eve and undergoing emergency heart surgery. He is currently sedated and listed in stable condition at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital, and the family is asking for continued prayer and community support as he begins a long recovery.

Georgalos’ 16-year-old son performed CPR until help arrived, an action the family credits with saving his father’s life. In the days following the emergency, relatives shared that Frank began showing signs of responsiveness when his wife, Sasa, visited him in the hospital.

For many in southern Williamson County, the Georgalos family is known not only for their restaurant but for the way they consistently give back. Over the years, they have provided hundreds of free Thanksgiving meals, hosted fundraisers, and donated food whenever a need arose in the community.

With mounting medical expenses, a GoFundMe has been created to assist the family during this time. Community members have also encouraged others to support the Grecian by dining in or ordering takeout as the restaurant continues operating.

As friends and neighbors gather to pray for Frank’s recovery, his son Alex has stepped into the kitchen to help keep the business running. Even in the midst of uncertainty, the family’s focus remains on serving others, reflecting the same spirit of generosity that has defined The Grecian for years.

Donate Your Christmas Tree to The Elephant Sanctuary

If you’d like to see that Christmas tree go to a worthy cause, The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald is asking for donations. Apparently elephants like them!

The resident elephants consume hundreds of pounds of fruit, vegetables, grain, and plants in total each day, especially the bulls with even bigger appetites! Christmas trees contain sweet resin that is high in nutrients, and they can also provide mental stimulation through exploration and enrichment.

Keep The Sanctuary in mind if you are looking for a sustainable way to dispose of your tree! Trees can be dropped off near the “re-tired” elephant statue at The Elephant Discovery Center in downtown Hohenwald (27 East Main Street).
