Maury County Approves Animal Shelter Expansion, Library and Courthouse Projects

Maury County is celebrating a wave of progress following Monday night’s County Commission meeting, which brought approval for several major community projects — including the long-awaited expansion of the Maury County Animal Shelter.
From Maury County Animal Services post…
“THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!
We are still dancing with excitement over the incredible gift we received on behalf of our community. The shelter expansion passed so we will be moving forward to the next step. We want to thank Mayor Sheila Butt and the County Commissioners that listened to our proposal, gave it serious thought and voted yes to moving forward, and thank you to the community that believes this is a worthy project and made their voices heard.
And we want to thank our fearless leader, our organized and forward thinking Director, Kim Plachta Raffauf for her dedication to getting this project through all the little steps it took to bring it to this point. And we have to thank #teammaury for recognizing the value of this project and standing behind us in support.
It is often said that success happens when hard work, luck and timing come together at just the right moment. We are very lucky indeed to have the right leader at the right time with all the hard work of the staff, volunteers and the community behind us. We humbly thank you for your support.”
Eric Previti gave a report about other great things that happened at the meeting…
“A lot of great things happened tonight at the County Commission meeting. We voted to accept guaranteed maximum prices on a new Library from Mount Pleasant, an expansion to the Maury County animal, shelter, and renovation of the old Maury County courthouse. All projects are approved and will be constructed at this point.
For me at this point, I’m very pleased to see all three projects pass. As far as the courthouse goes, I’ve worked for a long time to get to this point. I made promises to a lot of people that I would make sure this courthouse was kept alive and functioning, and that it would not fall into disrepair. I’ll have more about this as we progress. First, we have to go through the process of the asbestos abatement. After that, the renovation will happen. I’m very excited that the County Commission will be moving back into the courthouse where it had been meeting for many years before. I’ll be telling you more soon.”
