Explosion at Hickman County Manufacturing Plant Leaves Multiple Dead, Others Missing

Multiple people have been confirmed dead and several remain missing following a powerful explosion this morning at Accurate Energetic Systems, a manufacturing facility near the Hickman–Humphreys County line.

Emergency officials say the blast occurred around 7:50 a.m. at the explosives plant located near Bucksnort, roughly 50 miles west of Nashville. The explosion reportedly destroyed an entire building on site. Authorities from both Hickman and Humphreys counties have been working together as crews continue searching for survivors.

Officials said at least 19 employees were unaccounted for as of Friday morning, and several others were hospitalized. The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office urged residents to avoid the area to allow first responders to work safely.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said the focus right now is on the victims, their families, and the ongoing recovery operation. He noted that the investigation and cleanup will take several days.

Residents across Middle Tennessee reported feeling and hearing the explosion. Some said their homes shook and windows rattled miles away in areas including Bear Creek, Eagleville, Dickson, and Lobelville. One resident said it felt like “a boom that shook the whole house,” while another described it as “so strong it sounded like something hit the roof.”

Accurate Energetic Systems manufactures and stores explosives used in both defense and commercial industries. The plant is considered a key employer in the area, raising concern about both the human and economic toll of Friday’s tragedy.

State and federal officials are assisting local agencies with the investigation.
