Columbia Police Make Arrest Following Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

Through a thorough investigation, the Columbia Police Department has identified the driver of the vehicle and made an arrest. Additionally, the vehicle involved has been located and seized for forensic processing. The name of the accused has not yet been released.

Maury Regional to Welcome First Internal Medicine Residents in 2026

Maury Regional Health, in partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), has announced the launch of the UTHSC–Maury Internal Medicine Residency Program — the first graduate medical education program in southern Middle Tennessee. The residency will welcome its inaugural class in the summer of 2026.

The new program marks a significant step in Maury Regional’s transition to an academic medical center, expanding its role in training physicians while continuing to provide high-quality care to the community. The program is designed to prepare physicians to meet the needs of rural and small-town communities by offering a blend of inpatient, outpatient, and subspecialty training experiences.

Residents will train primarily at Maury Regional Medical Center, gaining exposure to advanced services such as cardiac catheterization labs, critical care, and cancer treatment, while also rotating through affiliated outpatient practices. The program is led by Program Director Thomas Quinn, MD, Associate Program Director Deborah Goldsmith, MD, and Chief Medical Officer Christina Lannom, DO, along with a team of experienced faculty physicians.

Maury Regional’s move into academic medicine is part of a broader $115 million facility improvement plan, the largest in 20 years, aimed at enhancing patient care and services. Prospective residents can apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) by January 12, 2026. More information is available at MauryRegional.com/InternalMedicineResidency.
