Community Gears Up for Annual Duck River Cleanup on Sept. 20th

Every fall, the community comes together to care for one of Maury County’s greatest treasures—the Duck River.
The Duck River Cleanup is a collaborative effort between Keep Maury Beautiful and Higher Pursuits. The primary objective is to remove trash from the Duck River, its banks, and the surrounding river access points.
Volunteers have the option to either float down the river to collect litter or clean up along the banks and river access areas on foot. And as a token of appreciation, lunch is provided for the dedicated volunteers.
The event is typically held at Riverwalk Park in Columbia, TN with volunteers floating around 5-miles along the Duck River assisting with litter pick-up. Litter collection supplies are provided for all volunteers.
Interested in participating? Here is how you can help:
Bring your kayak or canoe
Stay on your feet and clean an access area
Donate a door prize to thank our volunteers
Sign up for a spot in a canoe provided by Higher Pursuits
The 2025 Duck River Cleanup is September 20th. Rain date is October 4th.
“The team at Keep Maury Beautiful does such a great job putting together the annual Duck River Cleanup. They always do a great job coordinating between the county sheriff, Higher Pursuits kayak rental, the city park and the many volunteers that participate. The tons of trash that have been removed from the river over the years helps keep the Duck River clean and protects the many endangered species that live in the river.” - Dawn Nelson & Jan Seufert, Higher Pursuits
New Nissan Stadium on Track for 2027 Opening as Construction Progresses
The new Nissan Stadium is steadily taking shape, with officials confident it will be fully enclosed by September 2026 and ready to open its doors in February 2027. The goal is to have the venue ready in time to host major events that spring.
Now 18 months into construction, the project is both on schedule and on budget. The stadium’s framework is already visible, and while there are no seats, signage, or finishing touches yet, visitors can stand on the upper levels where future terraces and seating will overlook the field.
Each day, approximately 1,400 workers are on site, pushing the project forward at an impressive pace. Their efforts have brought the structure to a stage where the field wall is visible and the compression ring, which will support the stadium’s roof cables, is on track for completion this November.
Excitement for the new stadium extends beyond the construction site. Nearly 70% of the venue has already been sold through personal seat licenses (PSLs), with a strong majority of current PSL holders reserving their spots in the new stadium. While most of the seats are expected to go to PSL holders, some will remain available for individual games and group packages.
The stadium promises to be more than just a place to watch football. Every seat will feature a cushion, and 77,000 feet of LED lighting will give the venue a striking presence. The fan “Mosh Pit” section will include a stage comparable in size to the one at the Ryman Auditorium, offering a major upgrade for concerts and entertainment. Plans also include field-level concessions and restrooms, expansive terraces, parking garages, video boards, and additional fan amenities designed to enhance the overall experience.
With thousands of workers dedicated to the project each day, the transformation from renderings to reality is happening quickly, setting the stage for what’s expected to be one of Nashville’s most iconic venues.
