Economic Report Shows Maury County Outpacing State and National Trends

Maury County’s economy continues to show strong momentum, with steady gains in investment, jobs, and income growth.

Earlier this month, the Maury County Chamber & Economic Alliance presented its quarterly economic update to Columbia City Council, highlighting countywide progress and the latest Key Performance Indicator (KPI) report.

The data from July reflected higher-than-average new business investment, along with ongoing expansion among existing industries. The KPI report measured long-term trends in median household income, retail sales, and workforce growth from 2013 to 2023.

Over the past decade, median household income rose nearly 37%, while retail sales increased by 85%, adding more than $2.1 billion to the local economy. Between 2018 and 2023, Maury County’s civilian labor force grew by more than 82,000 jobs, four times the national rate.

When compared with Nashville’s Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) data, Maury County outperformed in several areas. Over 10 years, the county recorded population growth of more than 113,000 residents, an average annual income increase of 52%, a graduation rate above 92%, and nearly $5.4 billion in real GDP growth.

In the past year alone, the county announced 1,760 new jobs, attracted $2.4 billion in capital investments, and maintained a cost of living 12% below the national average.

The report also highlighted major industrial commitments in the region. In June, General Motors announced a $4 billion investment at its Spring Hill plant to support Chevrolet Blazer production, with a new model scheduled for release in 2027. Ultium Cells, GM’s joint venture with LG Energy Solution, revealed plans in July to upgrade its Spring Hill facility to advance low-cost EV battery production.

Together, these investments reinforce Maury County’s position as a hub for both traditional automotive manufacturing and the rapidly growing electric vehicle sector.

Local Star Saviya Morgan to Lead Maury County Fair Parade as Grand Marshall

From Experience Maury County’s post

We are thrilled to announce that Saviya Morgan will be the very first Grand Marshall for the Maury County Fair & Expo!

A true Columbia native, Saviya has made us proud by shining on the softball field, starting in 59 games as a freshman at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, after honing her skills right here on our local fields.

Saviya embodies the spirit of our community, inspiring young girls by giving back through volunteer coaching in local youth leagues.

As “Boo” Boshers from the fair board noted, "She is a local hero—an inspiration to young girls," dedicated to ensuring the next generation receives the support she wishes she had.

Join us for a special meet and greet with Saviya at the motocross track this Saturday at 6 PM, where she’ll be signing softballs and sharing her passion for the sport.

Let’s show our support by wearing orange in honor of Saviya and her team. Come out and meet this "spectacular athlete and even better person!"
