New Water Tower to Boost Spring Hill’s Storage to 12 Million Gallons
Spring Hill has begun construction on a new water tower that will significantly expand the city’s storage capacity and strengthen its overall water system.
The Southside Water Tank, located near the Stonegate Subdivision off Mahlon Moore Road, will hold 2 million gallons—replacing an older tower on the same site that could store only 300,000 gallons. Its design and size will mirror the existing Hardin’s Landing Water Tank.
Funded through more than $2 million in the city’s fiscal year 2025 budget, the project was approved last year by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. Once completed, it will raise Spring Hill’s total storage to 12 million gallons across the city.
Officials say the additional capacity will help maintain adequate water pressure and provide long-term resiliency for the community’s supply. While growth in the city has slowed under the current sewer moratorium, leaders anticipate that future storage facilities will be added as demand increases and as the city advances its $200 million water reclamation project.
Cooler Weather Ahead: Middle Tennessee to See “First Taste of Fall”

Middle Tennessee is about to get a welcome break from the summer heat, with forecasters calling it the “first taste of fall.”
After July’s streak of nearly 30 consecutive days above 90 degrees—the fifth longest on record in Nashville—temperatures are finally expected to dip next week. A cold front moving through on August 24 will bring in cooler air, pushing highs into the upper 70s and low 80s. That’s 10–20 degrees below normal for this time of year.
The Climate Prediction Center projects an 80–100% chance of below-average temperatures across the region from August 26–30. Rain chances are expected to remain low, making it an ideal stretch for outdoor activities.
While this cooler spell will feel like an early preview of fall, it isn’t likely to last. Seasonal forecasts point to warmer-than-average conditions returning from September through November. On average, Nashville temperatures hover around 73°F in September, 62°F in October, and 50°F in November. The Old Farmer’s Almanac also predicts a warm, dry fall for Tennessee and the broader South.
The official first day of fall arrives September 22 at 1:19 p.m. CT.
