Maury County Sees Strong Economic Momentum Across Key Sectors

At its recent monthly meeting, the Maury County Commission reviewed encouraging economic data presented by Travis Groth, Vice President of Maury Alliance. The quarterly update highlighted steady growth in income, retail activity, and workforce strength across the county.

According to the report, Maury County’s median household income has climbed 36.7% over the past five years, while retail sales have surged 85.3% over the last decade. The local civilian labor force has expanded at a pace four times faster than the national average since 2020.

The county also outperformed both Nashville and the state of Tennessee in a range of metrics, including population growth, average and median income increases, real GDP growth, and labor force expansion.

One of the most recent economic wins is the arrival of Xxentria, a Taiwan-based manufacturer that is building a new plant in Cherry Glen. The facility is expected to create 85 new jobs and inject $45 million in capital investment into the county. The company has also shown early engagement with the community through a $10,000 donation to Mt. Pleasant Elementary.

Additional growth is anticipated from General Motors and Ultium Cells, both of which are scaling operations in Spring Hill, with GM preparing to manufacture the gas-powered Chevy Blazer locally by 2027.

The Maury Alliance also recently welcomed the Japanese Consul-General in Nashville during a visit to two Japanese-owned companies operating in the county: Pernovo and Fuel Total Systems.

While industrial vacancy currently sits at 8%, Maury Alliance attributes this to a transition period following a large influx of speculative building projects. Many of these properties are already being absorbed as demand continues.

County leaders acknowledged the efforts to attract higher-paying jobs that don’t strain local infrastructure. While some questions were raised about how much of the rising income levels benefit long-term residents versus new arrivals, local development officials pointed to upcoming projects—such as “Project Mustang” with average salaries of $80,000—as proof that job quality is improving for Maury County residents.

Two Hospitalized After Shooting at Worthington Glen Apartments in Spring Hill

From the Spring Hill Police Department…

On July 28th at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at the Worthington Glen Apartments. Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old female and a 21-year-old male lying on the ground in the parking lot outside one of the apartment buildings. Both individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel administered life-saving measures at the scene. The male was airlifted to a trauma center, and the female was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. As of July 29th, both individuals remain in serious condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the male and female were acquaintances. The male allegedly forced entry into the apartment where the female was and assaulted her. He then took her phone and exited the residence. After driving through the parking lot, he returned to the area where the female was standing. The female reportedly yelled for him to return her phone. The male then parked his vehicle, exited, and allegedly assaulted her again. The confrontation escalated, resulting in the female discharging a handgun and striking the male. Shortly afterward, the male returned fire, striking the female.

No other individuals were injured during the incident. Detectives collected physical evidence and interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
