Spring Hill Utility Rates Set to Rise Starting in August

Spring Hill residents can expect higher utility bills starting in August, as part of a multi-year plan approved last year to help fund major upgrades to the city’s water and sewer systems. The increases are aimed at boosting capacity to meet the growing demand across the community.

From the City of Spring Hill, TN - Municipal Government’s post

RATE CHANGES: Starting July 1, several changes will be coming to your utility bill. You can find a full breakdown of the rate changes below:

WATER: Spring Hill is going into Year 2 of the water rate increases that were approved in 2024. The base water charge and volume charge are both increasing about 30% for the coming year.

SEWER: Spring Hill is also going into Year 2 of the sewer rate increases that were approved in 2024. The base sewer charge and volume charge are both increasing about 30% for the coming year.

STORMWATER: Spring Hill is going into Year 3 of the stormwater rate increases that were approved in 2023. For most Spring Hill residents, the monthly rate will increase by $1 to $7.75. Those with single-family dwellings with more than 10,000 square feet of impervious space on their property will pay $7.75 per month multiplied by the number of "Equivalent Residential Units" their property takes up.

SANITATION: Sanitation rates have been reworked to reflect the City's new contract with Waste Management. There is also a $0.99 increase from last year's combined sanitation rates, which comes as a result of Resolution 22-189, approved in 2022.

These rate changes will officially go into effect on July 1, 2025; however, you will not see any increases on your July bill. The first bill that will reflect these rate increases will be delivered in August. More information about your utility billing rate increases can be found here.

As Adient Shuts Down, UAW Works to Redirect 95 Laid-Off Employees

As Columbia’s Adient manufacturing plant prepares to close its doors on Friday, June 27, nearly 100 workers face layoffs — but there may be new opportunities on the horizon within Maury County.

Adient, headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan, is the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive seating. The closure of its Columbia facility, located on Oakland Parkway, will impact 95 employees, about 55 of whom are part of the United Auto Workers Local 1853. The decision to shut down was reportedly tied to logistical challenges, and employees were not given much advance notice.

The plant's contract expired earlier this year, and the company indicated at the start of negotiations that it would not be pursuing a new agreement. The announcement came abruptly, leaving workers with little time to prepare.

In response, the UAW is actively working with the Magna seating plant in Spring Hill to help transition affected Adient employees into new roles. Discussions are ongoing to prioritize laid-off workers for upcoming job openings at the Magna facility.

Adient’s Columbia plant isn’t the only one facing closure — a separate facility in Lexington, Tennessee, is also shutting down this month, affecting an additional 320 workers.

The closure adds to a broader trend of job losses across Middle Tennessee this spring, including layoffs at the Saks Fifth Avenue distribution center in LaVergne (446 workers) and Quickway Transportation’s shutdown in Murfreesboro (45 workers).
