GM to Add Chevy Blazer to Spring Hill Plant as Part of $4B U.S. Expansion

General Motors has announced a sweeping $4 billion investment over the next two years to boost vehicle production across its U.S. manufacturing facilities—supporting both gas-powered and electric vehicles.

As part of this effort, GM will expand production at its Spring Hill Manufacturing plant adding the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer to its production line beginning in 2027. The plant already produces the Cadillac LYRIQ and VISTIQ EVs, as well as the Cadillac XT5, making it a key hub for both electric and traditional vehicles.

“We believe the future of transportation will be driven by American innovation and manufacturing expertise,” said GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra. “Today’s announcement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to build vehicles in the U.S and to support American jobs. We're focused on giving customers choice and offering a broad range of vehicles they love.”

Spring Hill’s expansion is part of a larger plan that includes increased production at plants in Michigan and Kansas. GM says the new investments will give it the ability to assemble more than two million vehicles per year in the U.S. and allow it to meet strong demand across both EV and gas-powered segments.

Other updates include:

  • Orion Assembly (MI): Will begin producing full-size SUVs and light-duty pickups in 2027.

  • Fairfax Assembly (KS): Will support production of the Chevrolet Equinox starting in mid-2027 and begin building the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV by the end of 2025.

Mark Reuss, GM President, emphasized the broader impact of the news. “This is about hardworking Americans making vehicles they are proud to build and that customers are proud to own.”

GM operates 50 manufacturing and parts facilities in 19 states, supporting nearly one million American jobs across its network of employees, suppliers, and dealers. The company continues to post strong sales, with Chevrolet currently the #2 EV brand in the country and GM leading the market in full-size trucks and SUVs.

GM’s capital spending is expected to remain in the $10–12 billion range annually through 2027, reflecting the company’s prioritization of U.S.-based innovation and long-term manufacturing strength.

Delayed Weather Report Confirms Tornado in Spring Hill on Friday Night

On Tuesday, the National Weather Service released a delayed weather report, classifying the storm from Friday night as an EF-0 tornado. That storm did not receive a tornado warning designation as it passed through Spring Hill Friday night.

Based off damage reports, officials have determined the tornado touched down in the area of Station Hill Drive and quickly crossed over Reserve Boulevard and Saturn Parkway. A final damage report related to this tornado was located on the southeast city limits near Jim Warren Road. The majority of the damage reports were broken tree limbs or small trees snapped in half.

An EF-0 tornado is classified as having wind gusts between 65-85 miles per hour.

Spring Hill resident Bryan Watt captured a time-lapse video of what is likely the tornado here.
