Widening of I-65 Gains Support from Williamson County Commission
Traffic congestion is a common issue along the stretch of Interstate 65 that narrows to two lanes, often causing delays that aren't limited to rush hour.
In response to ongoing traffic concerns, the Williamson County Commission unanimously approved a resolution Monday night urging state officials to prioritize the widening of I-65 between Bear Creek Pike and Interstate 840. Local leaders emphasized the need for regional cooperation with other municipalities like Spring Hill, Thompson’s Station, Columbia, and Maury County to effectively advocate for improvements within state and regional transportation plans.
Spring Hill officials have been active in working with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to move the project forward. According to TDOT, this section of I-65 has already been identified as a potential future project in its 10-year plan. Because I-65 is a federal highway, any expansion will likely require federal involvement.
Columbia Mourns Loss of Fire Captain Ricky Stanfill

From Columbia Fire & Rescue’s post…
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of retired Captain Ricky Stanfill. In a bittersweet turn, we find comfort knowing that Ricky was reunited with his beloved mother, on Mother’s Day, who passed away some time ago.
Captain Stanfill devoted 22 years of his life to Columbia Fire & Rescue, retiring in December 2021 after a distinguished career. He was a true hero, not only in service to his community but also in his kind heart and generosity.
Ricky’s love for others knew no bounds. Whether it was saving lives, lending a helping hand, or feeding stray cats, he always put others before himself. His care, compassion, and dedication will never be forgotten.
Please join us in honoring the life of this remarkable man. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Captain Stanfill—you will be missed.
