DNA Evidence Leads to Justice in 1991 Maury County Murder
A Maury County jury delivered a long-awaited verdict last week in a decades-old murder case, bringing closure to the 1991 killing of Pamela Rose Aldridge McCall and her unborn child.
On Friday, May 2, District Attorney General Brent Cooper announced the conviction of 63-year-old Clark Perry Baldwin of Waterloo, Iowa, on two counts of first-degree murder. The case dates back to March 10, 1991, when McCall's body was discovered along Saturn Parkway in Spring Hill, near the Port Royal Road exit. Investigators noted signs of trauma, including facial and neck injuries, and torn clothing. An autopsy later determined McCall had been strangled and was approximately 24 weeks pregnant at the time.
Initial evidence and witness accounts pointed to a possible connection with a truck driver. DNA evidence collected by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was entered into the national CODIS database, eventually linking the case to two unsolved 1992 homicides in Wyoming.
In 2019, the Spring Hill Police Department requested assistance from the district attorney’s office to reopen the case. With cooperation from federal and state authorities in Iowa and Wyoming, Baldwin was identified as a suspect in 2020. DNA samples ultimately confirmed his connection to all three murder scenes.
Following his arrest in 2020, Baldwin was extradited to Tennessee to face trial. The case was prosecuted by assistant district attorneys Ross Boudreaux and Pam Anderson. After approximately four hours of deliberation, the Maury County jury returned a guilty verdict.
Baldwin was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Christopher V. Sockwell immediately following the conviction. He is expected to be extradited to Wyoming to face additional charges related to the 1992 homicides.
Mattie Pruitt Advances to Top 8 on American Idol
American Idol honored iconic Women of Music during its May 4th episode, featuring country star Miranda Lambert as a special guest. Lambert also took the stage to perform her hit “Kerosene” in celebration of the song’s 20th anniversary.
As part of the themed night, the top ten contestants delivered performances leading up to a live vote that would determine the top eight. Among the performers was Eagleville teen Mattie Pruitt, who sang Lambert’s emotional ballad, “The House That Built Me.”
Following her heartfelt rendition, judge Lionel Richie praised Pruitt's ability to connect with the audience, saying, “I have so many questions, but I want to tell you that you held your emotions perfectly and we felt every moment of that performance.”
Host Ryan Seacrest later revealed the results at the end of the episode, announcing that Pruitt had earned a place in the Top 8.
After the show, Pruitt took to social media to reflect on the moment. “Tonight was emotional in every way. I put my whole heart into that song, and I truly felt every word,” she wrote. “To be standing here in the Top 8 is something I’ll never take for granted. THANK YOU for voting, praying, and cheering me on. Your love carried me through that stage tonight. We’re not done yet—voting opens again TOMORROW NIGHT, and I’ll need you more than ever to keep this dream going.”
The competition continues tonight, when judges will select the songs for each contestant. Jelly Roll returns as a mentor, and another round of live voting will determine who advances to the Top 7.
