Spring Hill Planning Commission Moves Forward With 400 Homes in June Lake Development

The Spring Hill Planning Commission approved a neighborhood concept plan for part of the June Lake property during its April 14 meeting. The 95-acre site at Buckner Lane and Spring Station Drive will include 400 residential units, consisting of 267 single-family detached homes, 52 two-family homes, and 81 townhomes.

At a previous work session in March, commissioners requested that the applicant increase the size of the exterior lots to match those in the nearby Wades Grove neighborhood. According to staff reports, the development will feature connections to Spring Station Drive, a pedestrian link to Chapmans Crossing, and a future extension to June Lake Boulevard via a collector roadway.

Some commissioners expressed concerns about traffic connectivity, particularly regarding a proposed connection to Spring Station Drive. Williamson County Schools had submitted a letter opposing the connection, but city planners emphasized its importance for managing traffic flow to Spring Station Middle School and avoiding congestion in other parts of the city. Commissioners also discussed the impact of limiting connection points, warning that fewer access routes could result in increased traffic through residential areas.

An amendment was approved requiring a stubout on the southwest portion of the property to allow for future roadway connectivity.

In addition to the June Lake development, T-Square Engineering received final plat approval for Barton Hills Phase 1C, a project featuring 65 single-family lots on 41.46 acres along Cleburne Road.

Other approvals included a site plan for Image Studios, which will build a 7,735-square-foot hair salon at the northwest corner of June Lake and Marston Avenue, and a site plan for a Valvoline oil change facility at J.W. Parkway and Old Port Royal Road South, contingent on final approval of a retaining wall.

A separate proposal by Crunk Engineering for eight retail and warehouse buildings on 5.31 acres on Beechcroft Road was deferred due to staff concerns and commissioner questions.

As part of the consent agenda, the commission also recommended a one-year extension for the preliminary development plan of the Spring Hill Commerce Center. Staff cited federal funding delays, water service availability, and the need for a Traffic Impact Study update as reasons for the extension.

Finally, the commission recommended updates to the city's Unified Development Code, including new regulations for food trucks and the adoption of a drought-tolerant tree list. These changes still require approval by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen before they can be enacted.

Bridgestone Arena Set for $1 Billion Renovation and Expansion

Bridgestone Arena, home to the Nashville Predators and a cornerstone of downtown Nashville since 1996, is set for a major $1 billion renovation.

The upgrades will include a 175,000-square-foot expansion aimed at creating stronger ties to Broadway. Plans call for the addition of new restaurants, bars, and retail spaces. The arena’s concrete walls along Broadway will be replaced with glass to create a more open feel, and the main entrance will shift to Fifth Avenue. An outdoor plaza featuring an LED canopy will also be part of the redesign.

In addition to the arena improvements, two new towers are planned for the site — one intended for office space and the other potentially for a hotel. Construction is expected to kick off in the summer of 2026, with major phases of the project happening during the summers of 2027, 2028, and 2029. As a result, summer concerts at the arena will be limited during those years.

Matches begin at noon with the Quicksteps facing the Farriers, and at 2:30 the Farriers will face the Stones River Scouts. Food trucks will be on site with some delicious treats, and we will have a whiffle ball field setup for the little cranks.
