Spring Hill Mother Urges Action After Speeding Car Nearly Hits Son at Bus Stop

A Spring Hill mother, Lindsey Sparkman, is pushing for safety improvements after a speeding car nearly hit her 8-year-old son while he was boarding his school bus. She says drivers repeatedly ignore the bus stop sign on her street, creating a dangerous situation for children.

Local law requires all drivers to stop for a school bus with its stop sign extended unless a concrete barrier separates traffic. However, police say limited resources make it difficult to monitor every stop. They are increasing enforcement but encourage community involvement.

Sparkman plans to take her concerns to city officials, suggesting speed bumps and additional signage to warn drivers. Authorities continue to search for the driver involved in the recent incident.

From Spring Hill Police Department’s post on Thursday…

The SHPD Traffic Enforcement Unit has been proactively working to catch motorists passing school buses when the bus stop sign is activated. Officers have used marked and unmarked police vehicles to follow buses and observe bus stops. When the bus stop sign is activated, you must come to a complete stop. The only exception is if the bus is on a divided highway (unpaved or barrier). The brief duration that the bus stop sign is activated is a small price to pay to prevent accidents, especially since children can sometimes be unpredictable when crossing the street.

Keith Urban Brings Star Power to New Music Competition Filming in Nashville

Nashville is set to take the spotlight once again as the city plays host to a new singing competition, “The Road,” airing on CBS in fall 2025. Headlined by Keith Urban and produced by Blake Shelton, the show will be filmed in seven venues across the U.S., including two in Music City—Marathon Music Works and Ryman Auditorium.

Urban will perform some of his biggest hits, including his latest single, “Straight Line,” from his 2024 album High. But the real highlight will be the up-and-coming artists who will open each show, with audience members playing a role in deciding who advances to the next city. Nashville will be the final stop, with performances scheduled for Friday, March 28, and Wednesday, April 2.

Urban said in the CBS article, "I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So, I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment, to find out if they are artists."

"Paying your dues sucks, but there are things in this business that can't be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd. For me, touring has always been my first love.  It's where the rubber meets the road. But it's the only road to take if you want to be a performer."

While tickets aren’t guaranteed, all performances along the tour will be free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those hoping to attend one of the Nashville shows should keep an eye out for ticket releases here.

From Maury County Fire Department’s post

At 09:48am on Saturday, 3/1/2025, Maury County Fire Department responded to a reported horse stuck in a hole on Culleoka Highway. The Williamson County Fire Large Animal Rescue Team was requested to respond with their animal harness. The horse was found to be trapped against a large rock in a drainage ditch. A local heavy equipment company was requested to respond with his excavator to dig an exit path for the horse. The equipment and operator arrived within 15 minutes and quickly went to work. Multiple attempts to get the horse to stand up and walk out were unsuccessful. Williamson County Fire arrived and the harness was placed on the horse. The horse was successfully lifted out of the hole and laid on the ground 1 hour and 15 minutes after the first arriving unit. After several minutes of the horse resting from the incident, he was able to stand up and a veterinarian on site could not find any injuries.

Special thanks to Little’s Excavating and owner Whitt Little for his quick response and precise operation that allowed for a successful rescue of the horse. We would also like to thank Steve Davis who responded with this company and was instrumental in the rescue.
