Columbia Academy’s Mac Jackson Named Maury County’s Distinguished Tennessean Scholar

Columbia Academy is honored to recognize senior Mac Jackson as the Maury County recipient for the prestigious Distinguished Tennessean Scholarship from the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
This scholarship is offered to only 95 of nearly 70,000 Tennessee high school seniors. One representative from each Tennessee county is chosen after a thorough review of community involvement and academic standing.
Academic, professional, and personal recommendation letters were submitted on behalf of Jackson. Mac Jackson is a top scholar at Columbia Academy. He is a leader within his school serving as the Student Body President, National Honor Society President and Football Captain. Jackson participates on the Mock Trial and Tennis teams. He is a part of the ACT 30+ Club, is a Boys State Representative, and a Senator at Boys State. He has received athletic recognition such as All-State Defensive Back in football and All-Region Defensive Back three years in a row. He is also expected to receive his Eagle Scout soon.
Since its inception in 2022, we have had four students receive this scholarship that will cover full tuition and mandatory fees for up to four years at the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
Traffic Stop in Spring Hill Leads to Arrests and Recovery of Stolen Goods

Spring Hill authorities apprehended an alleged retail theft gang in the city’s shopping district on Tuesday afternoon. Loss prevention officers alerted the Spring Hill Police Department about suspected shoplifters, leading officers to locate the group in a Chevy Malibu rental car with Florida plates. The vehicle was stuck in traffic, prompting officers to conduct a felony takedown.
Four suspects, including two adults and two juveniles from Alabama, were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed stolen merchandise, a security tag removal device, and a Glock handgun with a high-capacity magazine. Officials noted that organized retail theft groups often travel across state lines to avoid detection.
The suspects face multiple charges, including organized retail crime, criminal conspiracy, and shoplifting. The adults were transported to the Williamson County Jail, while the minors were placed in juvenile detention. Investigators believe the group is connected to thefts at major retailers such as Target, Walmart, and Publix, and other law enforcement agencies have expressed interest in the case.
