Daylight Saving Time 2025: Will This Be the Last Time Change?
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is just around the corner, meaning it’s almost time to set the clocks forward and welcome longer evenings. The annual time shift, designed to make better use of natural daylight, will begin in March and last until November.
When Does Daylight Saving Time Start and End in 2025?
In 2025, DST will begin on Sunday, March 9, and end on Sunday, November 2. Clocks will "spring forward" one hour in March, resulting in an hour less of sleep but extended daylight in the evening. In November, they will "fall back" one hour, bringing an extra hour of rest and more morning daylight.
Which States Observe Daylight Saving Time?
Almost all U.S. states follow DST, with the exceptions of Hawaii and most of Arizona, which remain on standard time year-round. U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, also do not participate.
Will the U.S. Eliminate Daylight Saving Time?
Efforts to make DST permanent have surfaced multiple times in recent years. A 2022 Senate bill proposing the change stalled in the House. In late 2024, then President-elect Donald Trump voiced support for eliminating DST, citing its inconvenience and economic impact. Despite past proposals, no federal law has been passed to end the practice.
What About Tennessee?
In 2019, Tennessee passed a law to observe DST year-round, but without congressional approval, the law remains unenforceable. In 2023, state legislators proposed exempting Tennessee from DST if neighboring states did the same, but the measure failed in committee.
For now, Tennessee residents should prepare to adjust their clocks once again this March.2/28 - 3/2: The All American Circus Comes to National Guard Armory
