TVA Asks Consumers to Limit Power Use Amid High Demand
With freezing temperatures expected to persist through the end of the week, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is asking all electric power consumers to voluntarily reduce electricity usage starting at 6 a.m. tomorrow.
The extreme cold is placing a significant strain on TVA’s power system, and proactive steps are necessary to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply across its seven-state service area. To help reduce demand, residents and businesses are encouraged to lower thermostats slightly, set ceiling fans to a clockwise rotation to circulate warm air, and delay the use of high-energy appliances such as washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers. Keeping window coverings closed on the shaded side of a home while opening them on the sunny side can also help retain heat.
These voluntary measures are intended to help maintain system stability and prevent potential service disruptions. TVA reassures consumers that the power grid is built to handle demand fluctuations, but taking these precautions can help ease strain on the system.
The request applies to residential, commercial, and industrial power users across the region. Winter electricity demand typically peaks between 6 and 10 a.m., making this a crucial time for conservation efforts.
Maury County Public Schools Start 2 Hours Late on Friday

Due to extremely cold morning temperatures, all Maury County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, February 21.
What this means:
Schools will start two hours later than normal
Buses will pick up students two hours later than usual
Please dress warmly and use caution when traveling
Thank you for your understanding and stay safe!
March 1st: Zoo Run Run at Nashville Zoo

Join a herd of runners and walkers at Zoo Run Run for a winter 5K adventure! Bundle up, hit the trail, and gallop through the Zoo’s property, including areas not normally available to the public. Zoo Run Run is a rain, snow or shine event.
