Simple Gesture With a Big Impact: Columbia Public Works Lends a Hand in Difficult Time
Jonathan Knight posted a story today on Facebook that highlights the City of Columbia Public Works going above and beyond. This is what community is all about!
“Today, as I was leaving my doctor’s appointment at the VA Clinic in Columbia, TN, I accidentally dropped my keys into a storm drain. At that moment, it felt like yet another challenge in what has already been a difficult time for me. Just days ago, on January 30th, I lost my youngest brother in a tragic car accident, and I have been doing my best to cope with the heartbreak of losing a sibling.
When I called Columbia Public Works for assistance, I was met with an immediate and compassionate response. Their team wasted no time, and within 20 minutes, a crew of engineers arrived on-site. They approached the situation with kindness, professionalism, and even a bit of humor—something I didn’t realize I needed in that moment. Without hesitation, they got to work and successfully retrieved my keys from the drain.
I offered to buy them lunch as a token of my gratitude, but they humbly declined, saying they were just doing their job. What they didn’t know was how much their kindness and willingness to help truly meant to me during this difficult time. It’s clear when people love what they do, and I am incredibly grateful to have crossed paths with such dedicated individuals.
To the Columbia Public Works team—thank you. Your generosity and professionalism turned what could have been another overwhelming moment into one of gratitude and relief.”
2/11: Spring Hill to Host UT Horse Management Field Day for Equine Owners

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is organizing three in-person field days focused on horse management, offering hands-on educational opportunities for equine owners of all experience levels. The sessions will provide valuable insights applicable to all breeds, ages, and types of horses.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in discussions about trending equine industry topics during a dedicated Q&A session.
The first event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, at 5 p.m. CST at the Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Spring Hill. The event includes dinner and welcomes attendees of all ages. On-site registration is available for $20 per person.
Sessions will take place both indoors and outdoors, depending on weather conditions. For additional details or group pricing inquiries, contact Sawyer Main at [email protected] or (865) 974-7294.
