Family Home a Total Loss After Devastating Fire in Mount Pleasant

Today at 09:32 MCFD was dispatched to a reported house fire on Hwy 166 North. Mt Pleasant FD Engine 82 and Marshall 80 responded on automatic aid. MCFD responding units: Engines 21, 22, 34, Tankers 22, 23, 32, Rescue 21, District 23 and 24, and Deputy 20.

Units arrived to find heavy fire conditions throughout the home and commenced with defensive fire operations. A primary search and offensive fire attack was conducted for a short period of time before the structure began to collapse and all members were withdrawn from the home. Units operated for over 5 hours overhauling and extinguishing hot spots.

Red Cross is assisting the homeowner and no civilian injuries were reported. One FF was treated on scene by Maury Regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Special thanks to Mount Pleasant Fire for their response and hard work throughout the incident.

A GoFundMe has been started to help the family…

January 21, around 9:00 am, my parents home caught fire while no one was home.

Thankfully a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the attic and called 911. Unfortunately, the home was old, the fire overtook the house within minutes. Their house is a complete loss as well as all of their belongings. While some things are easy to replace, new pots and pans, new dishes, new clothes, there are some things that are irreplaceable and some things are collected over a lifetime. While they transition into next steps, I hope to help them meet basic necessities.

An update from 2 days later:

Thank you for the clothing donations. We are working with insurance but in the meantime, we are have used donations toward hygiene items, other clothing not received in donations, supplies to store any salvaged items, gloves, masks, trash bags, etc. We are still processing the loss and feeling overwhelmed with grief. We are also so grateful for the community support. There is so much still needed to help transition to the next steps and find something temporary until permanent plans are made.

Investigation Underway Following Fatal Crash on Saturn Parkway

The SHPD Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a single-vehicle fatal wreck that occurred on January 22nd a little after 10 PM. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that left the roadway in the area of Saturn Pkwy. and Main St. The preliminary investigation shows that Nicole Macquarrie, 32 years old, was exiting Main St. onto Saturn Pkwy eastbound when, for reasons that are still under investigation, her vehicle left the roadway while traveling on the on-ramp and stopped several hundred feet away off the road.
