Muletown Rec Relaunches February 3 with New Name & Lower Membership Fees
The Columbia City Council has finalized the acquisition of the Muletown Rec facility, setting the stage for its transformation into the Columbia Aquatics & Recreation Complex. Located at 1446 Oak Springs Drive, the facility will temporarily close at the end of January before reopening on Monday, February 3. The $4.6 million purchase was solidified with the council’s approval, along with decisions on renaming the facility and updating membership fees.
As part of the transition, the Parks & Recreation Department has begun rebranding efforts, removing old signage and preparing for the facility’s relaunch. Officials view the rebranding as an opportunity to start fresh and ensure the facility serves the community for decades to come.
A significant focus of the facility’s relaunch is making memberships more affordable for Columbia residents. Monthly rates are being reduced to enhance accessibility, with proposed fees set at $55 for individuals and $100 for families within the city. Residents of Maury County will pay $65 per month for individuals or $110 for families, while those outside the county will have rates of $70 and $120, respectively. Seniors will receive discounted rates, and day passes will be available starting at $5 for Columbia residents.
Financial assistance options are being explored to ensure everyone can benefit from the facility's offerings. The revamped complex will feature expanded programming and three pools, providing more value at nearly half the previous cost to members.
The Muletown Rec purchase, initially approved in December 2024, has garnered widespread community support. City leaders praised the teamwork of various departments involved in the acquisition and transition process. The effort reflects a commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities for residents while laying the groundwork for a lasting community resource.
The updated facility is expected to attract more users, especially with the newly reduced fees addressing affordability concerns voiced by the community. Local leaders are optimistic about the facility’s potential to become a central hub for recreation and leisure in Columbia.
