Fresh Leadership Joins Columbia City Council in Key Meeting
Columbia City Council recently welcomed two new members, Charlie Huffman and Cheryl Secrest, along with new City Attorney Jake Hubbell, as they began their first terms of office.
Huffman now represents Ward 2, while Secrest serves Ward 3. Additionally, re-elected council members DaVena Hardison (Ward 1) and Kenny Marshall (Ward 4) were sworn in during a special-called meeting.
The meeting, considered significant for the city's future, included the council's study session following the swearing-in ceremony.
Secrest, a newcomer to city government, aims to improve communication with residents, ensuring they are well-informed and engaged. She emphasizes the importance of collaboration and open dialogue to achieve solutions that benefit the entire community.
Huffman, a retired Columbia Power & Water Systems foreman and former grocery businessman, also enters local office for the first time. Drawing on decades of community experience, he looks forward to serving residents and addressing their needs. Public service is a shared focus in his household, as his wife currently serves on the Maury County Commission.
The Ward 5 seat, left vacant by Curry Andrew Hart’s resignation, will be filled by former County Commissioner Brian McKelvy, who is scheduled to be sworn in February.
Spring Hill to Elect Mayor and Aldermen on April 10th

The City of Spring Hill will hold its local election on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Early voting will run from March 21 through April 5.
Voters will elect a Mayor for a four-year term, as well as one Alderman from each of the city’s four wards, all elected at large.
You can find the full schedule of events and deadlines on the city’s website here or in the graphic above.
MCFD Responds to Back-to-Back Crashes on I-65 and Mooresville Highway

From Maury County Fire Department’s Post…
Yesterday, just before 4pm, units responded to I-65 for an MVA rollover at the 35mm. The vehicle was completely blocking the interstate causing a major backup. Rescue 21 arrived and pulled the vehicle out of the roadway to allow traffic to flow again.
As units cleared the accident and exited the interstate at the 32mm onto Mooresville Hwy they came upon an accident that had just occurred between a commercial vehicle and a passenger car. (Vehicles, including semi’s, were detouring through back roads to avoid the I-65 accident). One occupant was trapped and Rescue 21 went to work extricating the driver. Units stood by for Lewisburg FD and Marshall EMS to arrive.🎵 This Week’s Live Music
