Columbia City Council Bids Farewell to Longtime Members and City Attorney

The Columbia City Council recently honored three outgoing council members and its city attorney, recognizing their significant contributions to the city's progress. Those departing include City Attorney Tim Tisher and Councilmembers Deborah Wiles (Ward 2), Anthony Greene (Ward 3), and Danny Coleman (Ward 5).

Newly elected members Charles Huffman and Cheryl E. Secrest will begin representing Wards 2 and 3 following their swearing-in at a special meeting on Jan. 7, 2025. Andy Hart, elected to represent Ward 5, chose not to serve, and the council accepted his letter of intent.

During the meeting, the city presented commemorative plaques to the departing members, acknowledging their years of service. Tim Tisher, who has worked with the city for nearly three decades and served as city attorney since 2001, will step down in January. City Judge Jake Hubbel will assume the role of city attorney, while City Prosecutor Richard Matthews will fill the judge position.

Councilmember Anthony Greene, the longest-serving member with a decade of service, was recognized for his consistent dedication to Ward 3. Greene, who has a background in the military, law enforcement, and management, expressed gratitude for his time on the council, describing it as the most rewarding role of his career.

Danny Coleman, who represented Ward 5, was commended for his focus on smart and sustainable growth during a period of rapid development in his district. Although he did not seek re-election, Coleman plans to continue serving the community in other capacities.

Deborah Wiles, appointed in 2022 to complete the term of her late husband, Kenneth Wiles, was also recognized for her commitment to public service. In October, the city dedicated the Woodland Park playground in her husband’s honor, marking a lasting tribute to their shared contributions to the community.
