The 160th Anniversaries of the Battles of Spring Hill & Franklin

The Battle of Franklin Trust commemorates the Battles of Spring Hill and Franklin and their role in the American story every year. This year, join them at all three historic sites to experience the commemorations in a new way.
From their website…
“We will walk guests through each home in small groups. This will allow for a more personal chance to better understand what happened at each site. Your opportunity to visit Rippa Villa and learn about the fateful events there will be on November 29 from 5 to 8PM. On November 30, also from 5 – 8PM, you can visit Carter House and Carnton and experience the story of the Battle of Franklin, its cost, and its long-term impact. Both events are free and open to the public.”
On November 21st, local Franklin writer, Walter Green, will give a free lecture entitled “Federals in Franklin: A Town Under Occupation.”

Also coming in December…
The Battle of Franklin Trust is pleased to have our official living history organization, the Independent Rifles, at Carnton from December 6-7, 2024. The ranks of the Independent Rifles are made up of quality living historians from across the country. They will be depicting the 3rd Mississippi Infantry Regiment, which was heavily engaged at Franklin. Throughout the day on December 6 and 7, they will conduct scheduled programming for guests and have an interpretive space to interact with visitors. To attend these scheduled programs, visitors must have a grounds admission.
From 5:00PM-8:00PM on December 7, the doors of Carnton will be opened to the public and the members of the Independent Rifles, as well as a civilian contingent, will host an immersive living history portrayal of Carnton in the days and weeks following the Battle of Franklin. This event is free and there is no need for reservations.
Come experience a battlefield tour that you only have an opportunity to do once a year. Walk the battlefields at Spring Hill and Franklin and learn about what happened 160 years ago, and why it matters today.
