Columbia Discusses Regulating Short-Term Rentals in Public Forum
On October 23rd, the City of Columbia held a public forum to discuss regulations of short term rentals.
According to a post announcing the meeting on columbiatn.gov, “The purpose of the forum is to bring together stakeholders from across Columbia to discuss the issues related to STRs and suggest policies which will benefit residents, property owners, and visitors. Topics for discussion include:
Reasonable limits on the location of short-term rental units operating in Columbia;
Fair, reasonable, and enforceable rules to protect the quiet enjoyment of neighboring residents and the community at large;
Fair, reasonable, and enforceable rules to protect the safety of short-term rental unit occupants;
A predictable process of permitting and enforcement for STRs.”
If you missed the public forum, you can still share your thoughts online via this survey, which will remain open until November 1st. You can also watch a full recording of the meeting here.
10/26 - 10/29: Hampshire Pike Closure

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be conducting a full closure of Hampshire Pike (US 412/SR 99) in Maury County.
Crews with Queen City Railroad Construction, Inc. will close Hampshire Pike to through traffic from near Zion Road to near US 43 beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 26 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29. Detour signage will be in place. The closure is needed to make repairs to the Tennessee Southern Railroad/Patriot Rail crossing in this area.
All work is weather-dependent. As always, drivers are reminded to allow additional time, slow down, and move over when traveling through a work zone. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee carries the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of up to $500.
Get the latest construction activity traffic updates from the TDOT SmartWay map (https://smartway.tn.gov). Travelers can also call 511 for travel information.
Almost 1 Million Tennesseans Have Voted Early – Don’t Miss Your Chance by Oct. 31
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett today reminded all registered Tennessee voters they have one more week to utilize the flexibility and convenience of the early voting period to cast a ballot ahead of the Nov. 5 State and Federal General Election.
Through the first six days, almost one million Tennesseans have already cast their ballot during the early voting period. This includes a strong in-person turnout of 933,009 Tennesseans— outpacing in-person voting totals for the same period in 2016.
“We want all eligible Tennessee voters to cast a ballot,” said Secretary Hargett. “Tennessee and our nation are stronger when every eligible voter participates. Head to the polls now and make your voices be heard.”
Early voting runs through Thursday, Oct. 31, and registered Tennessee voters can find hours, polling locations, and view a sample ballot by downloading the free GoVoteTN app from the App Store or Google Play.
Voters need to bring valid photo identification to the polls when casting their ballot. A driver's license or photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Tennessee state.

Alongside a hearty serving of shrimp and sides, attendees of all ages can enjoy activities like bounce houses, firefighter demonstrations, and a touch-a-truck experience.
