Auction Frenzy: Vanderbilt Fans Snap Up Mementos From Historic Alabama Win

Vanderbilt football fans now have a chance to own a piece of history after their team’s stunning upset over No. 1 Alabama on Saturday night. The iconic eight-inch section of the south end zone goalpost, removed by fans during the celebration, was quickly snatched up for $4,035. By Monday, all pieces of the goalpost were sold, but other memorabilia remain available.

Auction prices surged throughout the day, with personalized football helmets rising from $7,090 in the morning to $31,090 by 4 p.m. Goal line pylons that started at $800 climbed to $1,300 or more, while game balls reached $6,885 each.

Following the win, Vanderbilt fans stormed the field at FirstBank Stadium and tore down the goalpost, carrying it through Nashville’s streets. As a result, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) fined Vanderbilt $100,000 for violating its 2023 rule against field storming. Vanderbilt officials clarified that auction proceeds will not be used to pay the fine.

The auction, which runs until 5 p.m. on Oct. 10, is hosted through the LiveSource app and website.
