Spring Hill Considers Purchase of Historic Ferguson Hall for Preservation and Community Use

The potential purchase and future use of one of Spring Hill's historic landmarks, Ferguson Hall, was discussed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen this month. The 19th-century building, located off U.S. Highway 31, has served various roles over the years, from private residence to schools, churches, and even as a U.S. Army headquarters during the Battle of Spring Hill.

Most recently, Ferguson Hall was part of the Tennessee Children's Home until the nonprofit relocated in 2021. The surrounding property is set for redevelopment as Kedron Square, a mixed-use community. However, the future of Ferguson Hall itself remains uncertain.

Eric Jacobson, CEO of the Battle of Franklin Trust, joined Spring Hill Public Library Director Dana Juriew and Historical Commission Chair Alicia Fitts to explore potential uses for the historic site. Fitts emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of the Cheairs family, who owned Ferguson Hall and are connected to several other historic structures in Spring Hill.

Juriew proposed using Ferguson Hall to expand the library’s archive, which dates back to 1975, providing a space to store and preserve artifacts and historical documents. The building could also serve as a central point for community events, blending Spring Hill’s rich history with its rapidly evolving landscape.

While no formal decisions were made during the presentation, the discussion highlighted the significance of Ferguson Hall as a key part of Spring Hill’s heritage and future.
