Voluntary Water Conservation Measures Announced in Spring Hill

Credit: First Watch
From the City of Spring Hill, TN - Municipal Government’s Facebook post:
At the request of the Duck River Agency, the City of Spring Hill is joining with other water users along the Duck River in enacting voluntary conservation measures.
Per the U.S. Drought Monitor, far-west portions of the Duck River Watershed are currently in “D3 Extreme Drought” conditions. At D3 levels, expected impacts include a water supply that is inadequate for wildlife. Spring Hill is currently in the area of “D1 Moderate Drought” conditions.
In response, the Duck River Agency is initiating a Drought Response Team, consisting of Spring Hill leaders alongside other local and state officials, who will meet weekly to assess drought conditions and escalate the response if needed.
The Duck River Agency is declaring the river is in a “Stage 1 River Drought.” While the Normandy Reservoir is not seeing drought impacts currently, many downstream entities, including Spring Hill, are seeing low river flow levels. This means significant amounts of river water is being lost to groundwater replenishment.
At this Stage 1 designation, DRA is requesting all water users to voluntarily reduce all non-essential water usage. Non-essential water use includes irrigation, outdoor recreation, filling or refilling pools and hot tubs, and dust control measures during construction, among others.
These voluntary measures are to protect the delicate ecosystem of the Duck River Watershed, which has been declared one of the most bio-diverse ecosystems in North America, and to ensure all entities have sufficient waterflow for customers.
The City of Spring Hill is thankful for your support in this request. DRA will continue to monitor the situation, and further announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
Drought Conditions Threaten Tennessee’s Bee Populations and Honey Production
Drought conditions in Tennessee are having widespread effects, extending beyond agriculture and impacting the beekeeping industry significantly. The prolonged dry weather has led to reduced nectar production in plants, forcing bees to consume more of their honey reserves than usual. As a result, beekeepers are struggling to maintain their hives, often resorting to feeding their bees sugar syrup to keep them healthy. With limited resources available, many hives are at risk of not surviving through the winter.
This year’s drought has been particularly severe, and the lack of rainfall has disrupted the natural honey flow, leading to decreased honey production and increased costs for beekeepers. The drought has also highlighted the crucial role that bees play in pollination, with a significant portion of food production relying on healthy bee populations. Beekeepers across the state are bracing for challenging months ahead as they work to support their colonies and adapt to the ongoing dry conditions.
As beekeepers continue to face the challenges brought on by these dry conditions, many are hoping for a return of wet weather to support both their livelihoods and the essential role bees play in the ecosystem.
🏐 Hustle Factory Volleyball Club Hosts September Tryouts in Spring Hill and Columbia

Are you looking for a place where young athletes can grow not only in their volleyball skills but also as individuals? Discover Hustle Factory Volleyball Club (HFVC).
Located at Hustle Factory Sports Complex in Spring Hill and their new branch in Columbia, HFVC offers an inclusive environment for girls ages 7-18 to thrive both on and off the court.
Founded in 2022 by Tim Cooper, HFVC aims to inspire and challenge players, fostering growth in all aspects of life. Tim’s extensive background, including playing and coaching volleyball for nearly a decade, informs the club’s holistic approach. His experiences range from coaching beginners to college athletes and even leading teams in international competitions in Thailand and West Africa.
“Our club is distinctive from other volleyball and youth sports clubs in that we are focused on the individual’s holistic development. While developing their athletic skills is a priority for our club it does not override the importance of character development and helping them to mature into kind, responsible and confident adults. We believe that a coach is able to connect with young athletes in a way parents, teachers and peers cannot. Our coaches are trained and encouraged to look for teachable moments and to develop healthy coach/player relationships throughout the season.”

HF Club is excited to be offering Club tryouts in TWO locations this upcoming season: Spring Hill at HF Sports Complex and Columbia at Macedonia Rec Center. From year one to year two we more than doubled in size with our club teams, going from 2 teams to 5 teams and this year we expect similar growth!
Between our leagues, club teams, private lessons and the boys program that shares our court space, our facility now works with 100+ athletes ages 8-18 years of age and has grown from a staff of 5 to having a staff of 15 and counting.
Keeping volleyball affordable and accessible is one of our priorities and we are proud to say we have not raised our club costs in 3 seasons. Over 50% of our families chose to participate in fundraisers last season which helped cover a significant portion of their athletes club dues.
Important Dates:
September 15 and 22: Pre-season Warmups. Come join us for our pre-season play date to meet our coaches, check out the facility and get in some touches before tryouts! Register Here.
September 22: An online informational meeting about the upcoming club season for parents starts at 6:30 PM. Link to the meeting will be posted on all our socials and sent to those on our email list.
