Maury County Fire Department Fights Brushfire on Theta Pike

Credit: Maury County Fire Dept
From Maury County Fire Department’s Facebook post:
At 12:41 Monday MCFD was dispatched to a reported large brush fire on Theta Pike in the area of Darks Mill Rd. Units could see a large column of smoke enroute.
Responding units: Engines 21, 22, 30, Tanker 32, Squads 21 & 32, Brush 26, Deputy 20.
Upon arrival brush trucks accessed the area which was approximately a mile off the roadway. Due to the rough terrain and heavy fuel load a dozer from TN State Forestry was requested. Units worked extremely hard to hold the fire in check until a fire line could be completed by the bulldozer. Approximately 15 acres in total burned.
We appreciate TN Wildland Fire quick response which kept the fire from becoming a much larger incident.
Get Ready For a Spooky Night With the Ghosts of Greenwood
The Polk Home is proud to partner with the Watershed Public Theatre for two nights of spooktacular fun!
On October 4 & 5, 2024, beginning at 6 P.M. and running through 9 P.M., ticket holding guests can enjoy a tour through Columbia, TN's historic Greenwood Cemetery and “meet” the site’s most notable residents through living history interpretations.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Polk Home’s website.
Greenwood Cemetery, established in 1809, is the oldest public cemetery in Columbia, Tennessee. Along with many prominent members of the town's earliest history, Greenwood is the burial site of Samuel and Jane Polk, parents of President James K. Polk, and most of their immediate family.
Details:
Guides will lead tours through the cemetery to featured gravesites where Columbians will “come to life” to share their stories. Tours start every 20 minutes. Please check email and the Polk Home social media accounts for weather-related announcements. Our 6:00 & 6:15 P.M. tours will take place before it is fully dark, making it an ideal time for younger children and guests who would like more visibility.
Guests must be able to stand for the duration of the tour (45-60 minutes) and should be comfortable walking on uneven surfaces indium lighting conditions. Limited tickets are available. Guests should avoid touching, stepping on, or leaning on gravestones. Please stay with your tour and follow all instructions presented by staff.
This event is family-friendly!
All proceeds benefit the James K. Polk Memorial Association, the nonprofit organization that preserves and operates the President James K. Polk Home & Museum.
