Nissan Rogue Named Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee for 2024

The Nissan Rogue, produced at Nissan’s Smyrna facility with engines from the Decherd Powertrain Plant, has been honored as the coolest thing made in Tennessee for 2024. This award celebrates the Rogue’s craftsmanship and innovative design. The contest began with over 100 nominations, eventually narrowing down to four finalists from Middle Tennessee:
Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey from Moore County
Ideal Tridon’s worm gear clamp from Rutherford County
Hitman Smoked Products’ gourmet flavored bacon from Wayne County
This year marked the first contest organized by the Tennessee Manufacturers Association, in collaboration with the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services, the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association, and the Tennessee Smart Factory Institute.
Over 100 product submissions were considered for the competition.
The event, which began in early summer, received over 75,000 votes from across Tennessee.
State Sen. Dawn White noted that the recognition of the Nissan Rogue is a testament to the company and its employees at the Smyrna factory.
Former Smyrna town manager Mike Woods remarked that the recognition of the Nissan Rogue reflects highly on the workforce and the community at large.
The award for the Nissan Rogue emphasizes the outstanding quality and impact of Tennessee’s manufacturing sector. It highlights the exceptional work being done at Nissan’s Smyrna plant and their significant contribution to the automotive industry.
The finalists were recognized for their ambition, innovation, and passion, which contribute to improving the lives of Americans.
Columbia Mayor’s Youth Council Applications Open on August 1st

Applications for the 2024-25 Columbia Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) term will open on August 1st. The CMYC is open to all high school students located within Maury County, including those attending public, private, and home schools. The 2024-25 term will begin in September 2024 and conclude in May 2025.
Mayor Chaz Molder stated, “The Columbia Mayor’s Youth Council is an excellent opportunity for our young people to gain firsthand experience in local government and develop their leadership skills. By participating in CMYC, students will not only learn about the inner workings of our city but also have the chance to make a real impact on their community. I strongly encourage all eligible students to apply and be part of this incredible educational experience.”
The CMYC aims to educate students about local government, foster leadership skills, and encourage community involvement among Columbia’s diverse high school population. The CMYC is composed of Maury County high school students who value academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership. Selected students will have an opportunity to actively participate in various activities and programs, addressing issues affecting youth and the community, leading and volunteering in community projects, and learning about city departments.
The CMYC selection committee will review all completed applications to select this year’s youth council members. Applications will be open from August 1st through August 23rd, and applicants will be notified of their acceptance by September 3rd. CMYC meetings will be held monthly, in addition to community and volunteer projects.
CMYC applications can be found on the City of Columbia’s website at columbiatn.gov or at your high school’s administrative office. Follow the Columbia Mayor’s Youth Council on Facebook and Instagram at @cmyctn. For questions, please contact Hanna Miller at [email protected] or (931) 560-1512.
🏐 Apex Boys Volleyball Club - Tryouts For Fall Season in August 🏐

Apex Boys Volleyball Club, founded in 2023, is more than just a club—it's a movement bringing the exciting world of boys' volleyball to our community.
As the only competitive boys' volleyball club south of Nashville, Apex is pioneering the sport for young men in our region. The club offers both indoor and beach volleyball opportunities for boys aged 10 to 18, filling a gap in local sports offerings.
Under the leadership of Tim Cooper, the club's director and co-founder, Apex Boys Volleyball has seen tremendous growth in its first year. Tim, a seasoned volleyball player and coach with nearly a decade of coaching experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and a genuine love for the sport. His vision extends beyond just teaching volleyball; it's about shaping well-rounded individuals who excel on and off the court.
At Apex, young men are challenged to become leaders in all aspects of life. They learn to compete wholeheartedly, win with humility, and face defeats with dignity.

What sets Apex apart is its commitment to holistic development. Coached by former collegiate players, the athletes enjoy engaging practices and competitive games while being part of a supportive community. Cooper's experience is particularly inspiring—he's coached players from age 7 to 60+ and even led two teams overseas to Thailand and Ivory Coast for competitions and humanitarian work.
The club offers a comprehensive program that includes a full Fall season from August to February, Beach Volleyball in June and July, indoor camps, and private lessons.
Looking ahead, Apex Boys Volleyball plans to expand within Maury County and surrounding areas, advocating for boys volleyball in schools and working closely with the TN Boys Volleyball Association to establish school teams. This club is not just about volleyball; it's about creating opportunities, building character, and nurturing future leaders.
Tryouts: August 10 & 17
Available for ages 10-18yrs old. No previous experience necessary, just a desire to learn one of the most exciting and fun sports around.
