Hearty Hog’s Veterans BBQ Camp Takes Over The Tilted Mule on Sunday

Get ready for a mouth-watering takeover at The Tilted Mule by the talented crew from Hearty Hog's Veteran BBQ Camp!

Indulge in delicious BBQ while supporting a great cause and help make a difference in the community!

Hearty Hog’s Veterans BBQ Camp, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to offering veterans a unique and therapeutic experience through the art of BBQ cooking. This veteran-run initiative focuses on teaching essential BBQ skills, including selecting and preparing the perfect cuts of meat, mastering the cooking process, and crafting complementary side dishes. The camp not only imparts valuable culinary knowledge but also fosters a sense of community and support among veterans, helping them reintegrate into civilian life and alleviate the mental and emotional effects of their military service.

Since its inception in 2020, Hearty Hog’s Veterans BBQ Camp has successfully trained numerous veterans in the art of "low and slow cooking." The camp's alumni often express profound gratitude for the transformative experience, leading to the creation of a network that connects veterans with one another to share their newfound BBQ expertise. This network not only strengthens bonds within the veteran community but also encourages alumni to apply their skills for the benefit of others.

A testament to the camp's impact occurred in August 2021, when alumni mobilized to assist in the aftermath of devastating floods in Waverly, TN. Led by founder and President Frank Magana, 20 camp alumni quickly organized and fed approximately 450 flood victims, first responders, and volunteers. This act of service highlighted the powerful role of BBQ in bringing people together and providing comfort during challenging times.

The commitment of Hearty Hog’s Veterans BBQ Camp alumni extends beyond immediate relief efforts. Many veterans return to the camp as instructors and volunteers, sharing their knowledge and experiences with new participants. This cycle of learning and teaching not only enhances the skills of future campers but also perpetuates a culture of giving back, ensuring that the positive impact of Hearty Hog’s Veterans BBQ Camp continues to grow within the veteran community.

So come on out to The Tilted Mule on Sunday from noon to 8:00 PM!

Today is the Last Day For Early Voting

Today is the last day for early voting before the election on August 1st.

For the first time in many years, Maury County’s Spring Hill voters who desire to vote early don’t have to fight traffic to get to the county Elections office on Tradewinds Drive in Columbia! Many shared their appreciation with the poll workers and Election Commissioner Chris Mackinlay at the Spring Hill Library when early voting opened on Thurs, July 25. In a surprisingly strong turnout for a local and general election, over 300 voters exercised their civic duty and privilege on the first day this polling location was open.

The chance to cast ballots at the Spring Hill Library early voting location before the Aug 1st Election Day next week is being offered this week: Thurs & Fri 8-4, and Sat July 27, 8am-12pm. Registered voters are reminded to bring Federal or state-issued photo ID to vote. Early voting in Spring Hill this week is open to any resident of Maury County, in any area of the county, regardless of their regular voting precinct. -Michele Stedman, Poll worker

🏐 The Hustle Factory Volleyball Club - Register Now For Fall League 🏐

Are you looking for a place where young athletes can grow not only in their volleyball skills but also as individuals? Discover Hustle Factory Volleyball Club (HFVC).

Located at Hustle Factory Sports Complex in Spring Hill and their new branch in Columbia, HFVC offers an inclusive environment for girls ages 7-18 to thrive both on and off the court.

Founded in 2022 by Tim Cooper, HFVC aims to inspire and challenge players, fostering growth in all aspects of life. Tim’s extensive background, including playing and coaching volleyball for nearly a decade, informs the club’s holistic approach. His experiences range from coaching beginners to college athletes and even leading teams in international competitions in Thailand and West Africa.

“Our club is distinctive from other volleyball and youth sports clubs in that we are focused on the individuals holistic development. While developing their athletic skills is a priority for our club it does not override the importance of character development and helping them to mature into kind, responsible and confident adults. We believe that a coach is able to connect with young athletes in a way parents, teachers and peers cannot. Our coaches are trained and encouraged to look for teachable moments and to develop healthy coach/player relationships throughout the season.”

The club offers a variety of opportunities to get involved:

  • Seasonal Leagues: Fall, Winter, and Spring leagues cater to beginners and those new to volleyball.

  • Summer Camps: Available for all skill levels, these camps are perfect for honing volleyball skills in a fun, supportive environment.

  • Private Lessons: Personalized coaching sessions with experienced trainers.

  • Travel Teams: Competitive play through club teams and travel seasons.

Exciting news: HFVC is expanding with a new branch in Columbia at the Macedonia Recreation Center with hopes this will be closer to those communities without a volleyball club near them such as Pulaski, Hohenwald, etc.

Don’t miss the upcoming Fall League starting on August 12th in Spring Hill and August 15th in Columbia. Spots are limited, so be sure to register soon!

For more information, visit Hustle Factory Volleyball Club and check out their volleyball leagues. Join HFVC and be part of a community that’s about more than just sports—it’s about shaping future leaders.
