It’s Mt. Juliet, Not Mount Juliet (Officially)

It’s been said that you can tell a long-time Mt. Juliet resident by the way they spell it: Mt. Juliet or Mount Juliet.

The city of Mt. Juliet has officially confirmed its name as "Mt. Juliet" and not "Mount Juliet." In a recent meeting, the city unanimously passed a resolution initiated by Commissioner Ray Justice to ensure historical accuracy and consistency in official documents and communications.

The resolution clarifies that when Mt. Juliet was incorporated in 1972, with a population of about 1,500, the petition submitted to the Wilson County Election Commission and the state used the abbreviation "Mt. Juliet." Over time, the name has sometimes been spelled out as "Mount Juliet," but residents wanted to confirm the correct spelling as "Mt. Juliet."

Justice emphasized that the resolution was necessary to honor the city's history and to avoid repeating past inaccuracies. He highlighted that the city was originally chartered as "Mt. Juliet" and that this tradition should be preserved.

With the resolution's passage, all city documents, communications, and official references will now consistently use "Mt. Juliet." The resolution will be sent to state and federal government offices to inform them of the official spelling. Additionally, the city plans to notify private entities like Google to update their records accordingly. The U.S. Post Office currently uses "Mount Juliet" in postal communications, but this resolution aims to align all references with the historical record of "Mt. Juliet."

Watch the New Nissan Stadium Take Shape: Live Feed Available

Fans can now track the progress of the new Nissan Stadium construction through a live camera feed available during typical working hours at tennesseetitans.com/newstadium. Site work commenced in February 2024, with excavation starting soon after. Approximately 400,000 cubic yards of soil have been excavated, and this phase is expected to conclude this week. While most of the soil will be transported offsite, some will be repurposed for other uses during the project.

The construction team is drilling 767 piers into the ground to support the stadium's structure, with over 500 piers already completed.

Additional ongoing projects include installing a 22-foot-tall Soil Nail Earth Retention System wall for the stadium’s loading dock, a water cistern tank capable of collecting nearly 100,000 gallons of rainwater to support sustainability efforts, pouring concrete decks for some concourses, and preparing foundation pits for vertical transportation.

The Tennessee Builders Alliance (TBA) is managing the construction. TBA consists of Nashville-based I.C.F. Builders, Brentwood-based Polk & Associates, Turner Construction Company, and AECOM Hunt. The team collectively has over 55 years of experience in NFL stadium construction, with Turner and AECOM Hunt having worked on 17 of the 30 most recently completed NFL stadiums. Those interested in workforce opportunities can find more information at nashvillestadiumconstruction.com.

Details on reserving PSLs for the new Nissan Stadium are available at newnissanstadium.com. The new stadium is expected to be completed by Spring 2027.
