Middle Tennessee Cities See Significant Population Growth in Latest Census Data
Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau reveals population changes in Tennessee between 2022 and 2023.
Tennessee experienced a 1.1% population increase from July 2022 to July 2023. The Middle Tennessee region saw the most significant growth, with Clarksville and Spring Hill each experiencing over 2% increases. Other areas also grew, including Murfreesboro (up by 1.9%), Smyrna (up by 1.6%), and Franklin (up by 1.3%).
The Nashville and Davidson County area had a 0.8% increase, growing from 682,130 residents to 687,788. The Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area (comprising Davidson, Murfreesboro, and Franklin) saw an approximate daily increase of 86 people in 2023, as reported by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce in March. This growth resulted from both natural population changes and an influx of people from other regions.
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce highlighted this trend in March, noting that Nashville continues to attract job creators and talent, making it a desirable location due to its livability and quality of life.
