Columbia Receives $750K Grant from THDA for Home Rehabilitation Program
The City of Columbia has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) as part of the 2024 HOME Urban Rural Program. This grant is designated for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of single-family homes for low-income households in Columbia.
City Manager Tony Massey emphasized the importance of this funding in improving living conditions for low-income residents, highlighting the city's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.
The HOME program, which is federally funded and administered by THDA, focuses on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of owner-occupied homes. The program ensures that vulnerable community members can live in safe, code-compliant residences. These funds are specifically for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of existing structures, ensuring that all homes meet building codes and THDA standards upon project completion.
Assistant City Manager Thad Jablonski noted that the City of Columbia actively seeks federal and state grants to benefit taxpayers. The HOME grant will significantly impact residents, especially during times of high and rising costs associated with homeownership and repairs.
The program is committed to non-discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, or disability, and includes policies to support non-English speaking applicants.
