Major League Baseball Brings Home Run Derby X to Nashville

Major League Baseball announced yesterday that Home Run Derby X, an exciting new baseball format emphasizing power hitting and defensive skill, will be held at First Horizon Park on Saturday, August 31. Nashville is one of the four cities in the United States chosen to host this year's tour.
Home Run Derby X will feature a 3-on-3 format with four teams consisting of former MLB legends, stars from women's baseball and softball, and local baseball talent from the Middle Tennessee area. Leading two of the teams are Andruw Jones and Nick Swisher, while former University of Oklahoma softball star Jocelyn Alo and four-time USA Women’s Baseball National Team member Alex Hugo will also participate. Additional stars from the baseball and softball world will be announced as the event approaches.
This event combines a traditional Home Run Derby with a defensive twist. Each game lasts about 30 minutes, with each player having one at-bat lasting two minutes and thirty seconds. During the at-bat, the opposing team is in the outfield to make catches, earning offensive points for home runs and defensive points for catches. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Extra points can be earned by hitting home runs into Paradise Park. Batters can call for a hot streak of five swings, where everything counts double, and in the final minute of an at-bat, a teammate can be tagged in to add an exciting finish.
Unlike a standard baseball game, Home Run Derby X will use only a portion of the field. Hitters will be positioned on a stage on the left side of the infield, aiming towards the existing right field wall. The home run zone, spanning from the Vanderbilt Health Picnic Pavilion in right-center field to section 123 in right field, is ideal for fans to catch home runs.
Ticket prices start at $10 for general admission. Home run zone admission costs $40, reserved seats are $52, and inclusive home run seats with food and drink are $70. These prices do not include additional taxes and fees. Nashville Sounds season ticket members, partners, and suite holders have access to tickets until Thursday, May 23. Tickets will be available to the general public starting Friday, May 24 at 10 a.m. Central Time and can be purchased online or through the Nashville Sounds ticket office.
Four Middle Tennessee baseball players will have the opportunity to join the stars in Home Run Derby X. Applications are open for participants to showcase their skills and explain why they should represent Nashville. Applications close on June 12, with finalists being invited to an in-person tryout on June 27. Final participants will be notified by July 2.
The Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers and play at First Horizon Park. Single-game tickets and season ticket memberships for the remainder of the 2024 season are on sale now. For more information call 615-690-4487 or e-mail [email protected]. You can find the 2024 schedule here.
