Dog Reunited With Family After Tornado Hits Owner’s Home

Screen capture from News Channel 5

A little over a week has passed since tornadoes ravaged Maury County, leaving a Columbia family particularly hard-hit and shaken. The Whittens discovered their home of 12 years in ruins and faced an additional heartache: their dog, Dash, was missing.

For nearly a day, Dash was lost until someone found him and took him to the Maury County Animal Shelter. The reunion with Dash brought immense relief to the Whittens, symbolizing hope amid the devastation. Now, Dash is back home with his family, including their other dogs, Max, Sammy, and Chico, as well as their two cats, Ricky and Clyde, who also survived the storm.

Despite the challenges ahead, the Whittens are grateful to have their family reunited. The Maury County Animal Shelter continues to care for animals displaced by the storm. Those missing a pet or interested in adoption are encouraged to contact the shelter.

Newcomers Night at River Terrace

Are you new to Columbia?

Innumerable posts from transplants to the area about how to meet people and make new friends has prompted Owner Elizabeth Landry to create a quarterly "Newcomer Night" at River Terrace, a mix & mingle event in our Terrace Room specifically limited to those who have relocated to Columbia from other areas within the past year or so. Our inaugural event for this will be Tuesday, 05/28/24.

Limiting to 50 attendees per gathering in order to anticipate attendance for food prep purposes. NOTE: Reservation and pre-pay is REQUIRED for admission! Call restaurant at 931.223.5135, or PM Owner Elizabeth Landry, with credit card number & expiration date and number of attendees, or pay in person, by no later than Saturday 05/25/24 to secure your reservation.

This event will be interspersed with Singles Night on other months that will be open to all residents, regardless of how long have lived in the area.
