The Maury County Office of Emergency Management has established guidelines for debris recovery following Wednesday's storms, with pickups scheduled to start on Monday. Over 100 structures were damaged, with approximately 40 deemed total losses, and tragically, one fatality occurred along with a dozen injuries.

Various response teams, both local and statewide, have been actively engaged in assessing damage, aiding recovery, and providing essential support to displaced families. As cleanup efforts extend into the upcoming week, residents affected by the storms are urged to segregate debris into specific categories for efficient pickup. Debris should be placed in front of sidewalks, as collection will not include items between the sidewalk and homes.

Categories for debris separation include:

  • Normal household trash and bagged debris - will not be picked up and should follow the normal garbage removal schedule.

  • Vegetative debris - leaves (not in bags), logs, plants and tree branches

  • Construction & demolition debris - building materials, carpet, drywall, furniture, lumber, mattresses or plumbing

  • Appliances & white goods - air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers/dryers and water heaters

  • Electronics - computers, radios, stereos, televisions and other devices with a cord

  • Household hazardous waste - cleaning supplies, batteries, lawn chemicals, oils

Maury County OEM Director Jeff Hardy expressed gratitude for the unified support from emergency responders and the broader community, emphasizing solidarity in the face of adversity.

Beginning Monday, vegetative debris pickups will initiate, with Maury County Highway Office overseeing the process. It's imperative for residents to familiarize themselves with the guidelines to facilitate swift collection. For further assistance, individuals can contact Maury County Solid Waste at (931) 375-6401.

In conjunction with debris removal, Maury County OEM will implement a pass system to regulate access to affected areas, which may still be obstructed. Access passes can be obtained at Randolph Howell Elementary School, where donations and provisions are also available. The school serves as a central hub for volunteers and contractors signing up to assist in the recovery efforts.

Director Hardy extended appreciation to all volunteers and contributors, underscoring the resilient spirit of Maury County amid adversity. While the community grieves, there's a profound sense of pride in the collective response to aid those in need.

Duck River Electric Gives Update on Restoring Power

Duck River Electric posted on Friday night:

UPDATE: Power has been restored to all DREMC members except for approximately 300 where system damage in Maury County includes several downed poles and lines. In addition, several trees were taken down by the storm, requiring extensive cleanup tracked equipment to gain access in some areas for the crews.

DREMC and contract crews will resume restoration efforts early on Saturday to restore power to the remaining members without service.

The photo was taken today at Rally Hill and shows the type of dedicated teamwork that has taken place this week across the DREMC service area.

We thank everyone again for your continued support, prayers, and patience for all who are working to restore power.Take Your Mom Out to Second Saturday!
