A Rare Treat! Northern Lights Appear in the Columbia Skies

Credit: Weather Down in Muletown (Facebook)
Last night, residents of Columbia and all across middle Tennessee were sharing photos of the northern lights. This was definitely a rare treat! The last time the aurora borealis was visible across this much of the United States was 19 years ago.
This was made possible by a level four geomagnetic solar storm. You can think of it like a massive explosion on the Sun. As a result of this, there have been reports of seeing the lights from as far south as Florida.
Wish you could’ve seen them? There’s still a chance! The NOAA says they could be visible until Sunday.
The best time to catch them is within an hour or two of midnight. You might like to try taking photos of the sky because the lens can pick up things the human eye can’t. You might be surprised by what you see!
Family Remembers Woman Killed in Tornado
Cheryl Lovett was tragically killed during Wednesday's tornado that hit an area north of Bear Creek Pike. Maury County officials reported that Lovett was inside a home that was blown off its foundation, one of two homes destroyed in this manner by the tornado. She was discovered in a wooded area among survivors. At least 12 people were rescued from debris or wooded areas following the storm's passage through Maury County.
Cheryl had worked at Stan’s Restaurant on Bear Creek Pike for 40 years and had retired on Wednesday.
Her daughter, Brie Lovett, has not only lost her mother but her home as well. Unfortunately, there was no home owner’s insurance. Brie has an 18-year-old daughter, Lauren, who is graduating next week. The family has set up a GoFundMe account for people to make donations.
🚌 Maury County Schools Will Remain Closed on Monday 🚌
In the aftermath of Wednesday's tornado, which damaged more than 100 structures and destroyed 40 homes, all schools within the Maury County Public Schools (MCPS) district will remain closed on Monday. The decision was officially announced by MCPS on Friday afternoon. While classes will be canceled, other school-related activities such as graduations, after-school athletics, and performances will proceed as scheduled. Additionally, the Boys & Girls Club will continue its operations at Mt. Pleasant Elementary, Marvin Wright Elementary, and their Wayne Street and Teen Center locations.
