Maury County Commission Approves Sale of Land for Future Hotel Development

At its meeting on Monday, April 15, the Maury County Commission approved the sale of 6.5 acres for approximately $2.95 million by Maury Regional Medical Center. The land, situated on Trotwood Avenue, is intended for a hotel development.

The proposal was initially presented to the county's Health and Environment Committee on April 1. According to the Private Acts of 1996, any sale or disposition of real property by Maury Regional exceeding $1 million requires approval by a two-thirds majority vote from the commission.

Although most commissioners supported the sale, some raised concerns about parking, traffic, and the potential impact on The Retreat, a hospitality house that provides daytime accommodations for cancer patients. Dr. Martin Chaney, CEO of Maury Regional, assured the commission that the hospital had thoughtfully considered the parking plan and that the phased approach would ensure growth while accommodating the new development.

The hospital's parking growth plan aims to reconfigure parking in front of Maury Regional, adding 189 spaces through a complete redesign. The plan includes a new road that will run along the front of the hospital, allowing better access to all facilities. Additional parking spaces will be created at the James Campbell Trotwood lot and by urgent care along Trotwood, gaining 114 and 28 spaces, respectively.

Regarding The Retreat, Dr. Chaney mentioned several contingency plans, including the potential to build a new facility with foundation support or allow patients to stay at the new hotel. The hospital is also exploring alternative locations for The Retreat during the transition period.

While Commissioner Ray Jeter supported the hotel project for its potential to bring additional revenue into the county, Commissioner Connie Green expressed concerns about increased traffic from hotel operations, such as laundry services and deliveries. Dr. Chaney reassured the commission that the hospital plans to improve traffic flow with a single campus entrance and a proposed stoplight at the Blythewood intersection.

Despite some concerns, the commission ultimately passed the resolution with a 19-1 vote, green-lighting the sale of the property for the hotel project.

Watch The Final Jeopardy! Question That All Three Contestants Missed This Thursday (you probably know it)

On Thursday’s Final Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings asked a question that most Nashville people should know…

"The 42-foot-high statue of Athena in this state capital is the tallest indoor statue in the United States."

The contestants had 30 seconds to answer and none of them guessed it. They simultaneously let out an “Ohhhh” when they found out the correct question was “What is Nashville.”
